Pump question

Postby urbanminer » Wed Sep 08, 2010 8:31 am

Is there a logical reason why they mount the pumps on a horizontal shaft and not a vertical shaft? Wouldn't it be easier to prime vertically since the pump would be nearer, if not in, the water? Is there something obvious that I'm overlooking, or is it just easier for the manufacturer? I ask these questions cause I just found an old dredge that uses a vertical shaft motor. Strange looking beast! The floats are front and back, not on the sides. Marc

I bet it looks like this. It's a very old Keene.

That's exactly what it would look like if the box and hoses were there. It's nice to see what it was supposed to look like. Thanks for the picture. It answers a few questions that I had. Marc

Marc, our club sold one just like that for $250. and another club member also sold one similar but it had a innertube float for it and it also went for $250.
