I have been working a project, after seeing these things selling on the net for $400, my wife would have cringed had i bought one.. So I bought the aluminum instead and build it

Heading to the Nemaha to test it on Saturday.

Need to slurg for miners moss, and decent expanded aluminum on the next iteration.. I riveted this one, I am going to use durafix aluminum weld to do the next one it this one works out.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Rex i might have the MM your wanting. but its the thick (3/4 inchs) stuff.there is better/other material than the MM. let me know !

Russ, Right now I have a fine ribbed matting from Ace® and a ribbed carpet from Menards. The expanded metal is steel lathe, for lathe and plaster. I am going to order some expanded aluminum from Online Metal Supply in your neck of the woods. I am thinking I may build a smaller one, this is pretty light but kind of bulky.. I have a friend who wants me to build one for them. I think I am going to try to use the alumiweld sticks and see how they work.

ive tried all of the alum.weld sticks with a oxy/accet torch. they worked but the weld looked messy! thats why i bought my Miller Tig welder.

haha Rex for the right price you could have one just like mine with all the extras! but if your wife would cringe at $400.....................................Tig welding is very expensive to do! the supplies to do it are getting up there!

i buy most of my equipment at autions of places that have closed down because of the ecconomy. its a sad thing to see but if you know the price of equipment, you can get a good deal! but you MUST look at it close to see if its worth it or damaged.
