Hi Leonard & hoser john, The area we were was where you turn from Talkeetna and was up past the road house at petersville, only way to get in was 4wd down a path ummm I mean road lol bout 10 mi. or so was hell to travel even in a 4wd and then the irate dudes with the shotguns to contend with, to much hassel, we cleared out camp everyone went their seperate way. Me & Mark went to fairbanks and found our own claims near Manley Hot Springs staked them out march of 2004 40 below zero wind at about 30-40 mi. hr lol we so CRAZY!! Just one of many stories over the years after that, Les Cobb befriended us, he told us we were the first from lower 48 not to leave within a week when they seen the first bear or had a swarm of skeeters & black flies attack lol, so he said we was allright in his book, may he RIP. It's been a great Adventure and we got some good gold. My dredge is still up there either at marks place or down at Les Cobbs former ranch. I trying to get back up and retrieve it as I have found some good ground here in North Carolina.

you owe it to yourself to goto Alaska just 1 time if not more. have a plan and all of your research done for this trip.itll be one that you wont forget anytime soon! the longer you stay and the further out you go,the better the trip.atleast thats how i felt when i went there in 2000.

You nailed it Russau, My sentiments exactly. Art or anyone wanting to have that "once in a lifetime" should go to Alaska,I don't know if I will get back soon but I plan to, I still have the first nugget I found there It's a 4 dwt I soldered the bail on myself,After I went to Jewelry School and took classes. When I found gold in Alaska it spurred me to another adventure of making gold nugget jewelry which has helped me greatly in the income dept. So yes Alaska has been very good to me and I am sure you will get much in return as well. Remember the 7 p's and you will do just fine Art. Here's a pic of that Nugget pendant, it belongs to tha wifey now LoL

the biggest problem with Alaska is that the land is so beautifull and the gold is sooooooooo darn good that itll spoil you for anything else!and you wont want to leave! everyone needs to do it once!

You know there is a sickness called Alaska Fever.

One morning you wake up dizzy and decide to go to Alaska, next you go up there and find that you can't leave, next your whole family comes down with the fever and they all end up there!

True story! so BE CAREFUL, it could happen to you.

When I was in the Air Force 8-) , I hoped and prayed I'd never be stationed in AK, as the fish I caught in the lower 48, would just be bait up there  Now that I'm into prospecting, I'd love to go  , but at 65, it's only a pipe dream, plus it cost more now than then.

Hey Art, those 7 P's are "Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance" Ya have to think about what yer doin and what ya might need cause you are in the middle of nowhere in alaska usually and just can't stop run down to the corner and get what ya need lol, that's the reason for the 7 P's
