yard sale

Postby n.h.gold » Sat Aug 17, 2013 4:08 pm

I saw in the paper that there would be a yard sale today concord n.h. that listed among the items "gold panning equipment",,well that is very rare around here,,,so I headed down this morning and sure enough there was a little pile including 2 pans, home made sluice, a bunch of books, a couple small buckets of dirt, a vial with a little gold and a few topo maps,,$15 dollars, I paid the man and loaded the items,,in the car I noticed the maps were of my town,
After work today I panned the dirt, concentrates, and lo and behold other was a bunch of fine gold,,nice! So I look at the sluice and it has a carpet lines under wire mesh,,,you can never get everything out of the carpet till its really dry,,so I pull out the carpet and empty it into the pan and swirl and,,,hot dam, more fine gold, and super heavy black sand,,,now I am thinking where was this fellow going to get this stuff,,look at the topo map and 2 rivers in my town are high lighted,,will be trying them soon!

Good luck to you N H Gold. Let us know what you find.

My first dredge was an old Keene 2-1/2 inch unit that I found at a garage sale...engine was frozen up and everything that was steel was rusted solid. Had a single cracked inner tube that was flat as day old beer. The year was 1981 and I had never even panned before but I needed a new challenge so I paid $45 for the pile of junk and took it home. A few weeks of work later, some new Briggs parts, nuts, bolts, hoses and a new tube and it was ready to go. Out here in WA I found there were lots of gold prospecting clubs so I located two miners who gave me some much needed info and I was off for a life's adventure...and never looked back. Been a good time for the next 32 years and I found gold, got a bad case of gold fever and met some great people along the way. Many are on this forum. All the best.

About 12 years ago my buddy bought a old 2.5" at a garage sale. He sold it on Craigslist about 3 years ago. The next year it was listed again so I bought it and resold it. About a year later it listed yet again so I bought it AGAIN. I figure someone wants me to keep it. Moved about 4 yards with it last weekend. :D

some years back we started a club here in St.Louis,Mo. and at our first meeting(no name for the club yet) a older man came in with his wife and said he wanted to donate all of his equipment to the club.he had been prospecting dredgeing for years. well as club prez(at that time) i and another club member went over there with our trucks and got loaded up with this equipment.after talking to him for awhile and thanking him profusly we drove back to inventor what this great donation.he had homemade sluices a homade backpack 2 inch aluminum dredge and a lot of carpeting.on this dredge he had a small tackel box of parts and a small vile with some gold in it.WOW, i said to myself! he missed this for sure!! and i bet he didnt beat out them carpets either, so i did and got a nice pile of cons which i panned out and got more gold!i looked over at the other person with me and said," He must have forgotten about this! lets give it back to him! well i did and you should have seen this old mans(not mine) face as i showed him the gold he forgot about! he literly had tears in his eyes as i handed this vile of gold to him! this man is obviously retired and he volenters his nights (7 days a week)to help at a childrens home fulltime! that made me feel real good!
