I admit it was in 1936 but you definitely earned your money.

That was taken from http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=m ... 1up;seq=29 If you want to learn how to run a mine and mill, this has just about all the info you might need to cost it out.

My math say's they had to get 3.5 ounces per day just cover wages!
Gold was $34.87/toz in 1936 :ugeek:

Highest paid guys were paid 11.47% of an ounce per shift...
In todays price of gold (dollars) that would be roughly $138 per shift or $17.25 an hour (assuming only 8 hours as stated)

1936 gave us the Social Security Act - but today we'd have to add in the costs of Workers' Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, Medicare and Obamacare :?

I know, I way too much time on my hands between naps... I love Christmas break

8-) Thanx much Leonard for the look back in time when life was much simplier. You worked like a dog and died early underground as no protections and working conditions were horrendous. I like the book "Handbook for Prospectors and Operarors of Small Mines " by by Von Bennowitz circa 1926. The complete list of items, and costs, was a real eyeopener of the differences from today. If you find a original "first edition" that rocks as EXPENSIVE collectors edition. 87 years ago, wow and a lot of the info within still pertinent-John
