I would guess he wants to test his motor or air compressor without burning out his pump seal. I've ran mine before just by squirting water into the pump inlet without all of the adapters. All you need to do is keep the seal wet to keep from damaging it.

Ah I see....I was thinking he was trying to disguise his dredging operation for a crop watering type operation but the garden hose was on the wrong side, anyways won't work anymore in Cal. We got alot of that round these parts. :?

i just use a kiddy pool or fill a bucket up and let the pump, recurlate in the bucket with a hose flowing in to it to keep it full from loss.
save a tree, eat a squirrel.

I use this setup to check everything out in the spring and in the fall when I winterize. No kiddypools or buckets just the hose setup....wallyMi
