A Bonanza From Gold Rush Alaska

Postby libertydave » Fri Mar 04, 2011 5:13 pm

The last episode of "Gold Rush: Alaska" aired on TV last week and the show ran for a total of eleven episodes on cable TV's Discovery Channel, long enough for generating a lot of buzz on the show.

Like it or not it was a BIG hit in the ratings....and sponsors (and millions of viewers), who all want more of this, so there will be a "GR:2" to be filmed this summer.

Many of you might say...."so what".

Well, for all of us at Liberty Resources Company GR:A has been a big, positive influence on boosting our mining equipment sales. Our equipment sales so far for 2011 have nearly doubled from the record year LRC had in 2010.

As you might assume from this posting (and regardless of whether you like "Todd, Jack, Thurber, Harness, Dorsey, Greg, Dakota Fred and/or Chris) their TV show has been really great for our 'bottom-line' with our mining equipment business.

Imagine this....lots of new 'cheechackos' armed with their new mining equipment and just waiting for this coming summer. Cheers.

My sources in alaska say that the Discovery channel bought the canadian claim in the last episode for the boys to play on this year. It should be interesting.

Word we've heard is that there may be two or three gold mining shows on TV with a continuation of the Porcupine Creek operation, perhaps by Dakota Fred and his crew, the "Gold Rush2: The Klondike" show with Jack and Todd, and possibly one more to be filmed up in Nome.

We are most glad for the increase in sales but sadly the business from mining just no longer warrants us having a store. After declining sales we saw our Renton WA store close early last year. Sad to say the cost to keep it open forced us to close our doors. We blame the burden of over regulation which made a "brick and morter" store just no longer feasible. Hard to do dredging these days all up and down the western U. S.

Thankfully catalog and gold show business has boomed for us. I'm just glad for the new public interest in gold mining that have turned into sales.

I recall another gold rush, one up north, and it actually turned Seattle into a boom town. It was in 1897 and in one day the town went from depression to boom. For every dollar from gold mined up in the Klondike, local merchants, outfitters and steamship operators realized $25. So GR:A....thank you and I hope this one holds on for a while.

Dave glad biz is coming up for you. I have one favor to ask all miner supply companies. PLEASE make these tin horns aware of private claims... Caught 4 of them on my claim yesterday. Nice folks said they had been watching the show and thought they would go dig up thier million dollars... Had to tell them not to do it on MY claim...
Later in the day. I'm driving down the road and started noticing freashly dug holes in the ROAD. followed the holes and came across this guy dressed like Indiana Jones and his wife in a Range Rover and a metal detector walking down the road digging holes and NOT filling them back in. I am glad the price is up and I'm glad that we are getting some press. But man these people are killing me....

I think most of us here look at GRA from a technical point of view. We see the mistakes and lack of experience and we get frustrated because most of on here can do far better ourselves. I have to keep reminding myself that the show is not about gold, It's about drama. The personalities on there were not picked at random and the events are not coincidental, These guys were picked and the plot is very contrived to invoke the exact reaction all of on here feel when we watch. With this in mind, the show is a very successful one.

When the GRA first came on I worried that the public would think all miners were bumbling retards with no plan. Then I realized that because the show had aired, it would now be a simple task to impress anyone I encountered. I believe GRA has helped miners by raising awareness and spreading the word that we exist and our industry is real and viable.

I say "bring on season 2" and keep them coming, make it a series and have spinoff shows for hard rock, dredging etc... The more, the better!
