Douglas Creek 4th of July

This is a official invite for anyone that wants to join us over the 4th of July at Douglas Creek Wyoming. You won't get rich gold wise but you will find gold. Where you will get rich is with the memories that you take home with you. It's looking like a bunch of the really old timers may be there. You don't need to bring anything more than yourself. If you bring equipment, we'll give you a place to use it. If not, we'll let you use ours. The camping space at the flats is free so the only expense will be getting there. I own the claim so there's no charge there. If food is a problem, I've never known anyone that showed up there going hungry. Actually, there always has been plenty around for everyone to drink also. I will be there from a few days before 1 July to about a week or so after.

Plan on it and let me know you want to be there.

I kind of remember the same guy after feeding all that showed up, furnishing both scotch and cigars for all that wanted to partake. How can you top that?

I didn't realize it until viewing your pics, but it looks like Ed never got very far from the kitchen.

I lost that set-up four summers ago, right there on the flats. While Kelly and I were up dredging, a big wind came up and tore my awning right off the side of the trailer. There wasn't much to salvage when we got back. So, I sold the trailer, gave a bunch of the tent equipment to my youngest son "crash", and bought myself a 5th wheel...with an awning.

I still have enough after-effects from the stroke that I'm not yet 100% positive I'll bring the dredge, even though I'm still dialing it in a bit more just in case. Might be a tad too much for me to handle still. At the very least, I'll bring my hand tools...and my beer...and my scotch...and my cigars.

Tim, bring your equipment/dredge. there will be plenty of help to move it (in/out)or help you run it! heck im bringing my 2 and my 4 inch dredge.

Even if you don't bring the dredge, bring the wetsuit. My dredge will be in the water and I enjoy siting in the chair shooting video and smoking a cigar almost as much as getting wet. The only problem might be the walk in. It's about 1/4 mile.

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and wanted to say hi. The invite to all is a very ,Very kind gesture, especially on a private claim. I was turned on to Golddreddgers by Rex Mueller, Rex and I prospect the flat lands of Nebraska. Ive been prospecting since 06' ,started as a rockhound until I put a pan in the water, then it was all over, rocks came second to Au. Ive prospected NE,MN,VA,Wy,CO,CA,and SD. So, just wanted to say hi, and thanks to the Golden Optimist for creating this site.

Being a calif/oregon/nevada person I'm still freaked out by the weather shown in pix. Does it ever warm up???? Visitors bureau says to be prepared for snow 12 months a year?? Whatzup with that--overkill paranoia or what. I have chains and snow tires but don't want to look like a arse showing up with chains in the summer?? thanx for any and all info-pix of cold,wet and such ok and doable----somewhat-John

I haven't seen it snow in July, buit I suppose it could.
Forget the chains. Even if it did snow, it would melt in no time.
Nights are nice and cool, days warm (in the 70's). It is over 8000 feet.
It does shower most days- keeps the dust down. We have awnings, shelters, what ever, so no worries. Sweatshirts and shorts. A pair of jeans is good, as the mosquitos can be out.

Of course I was never far froom the kitchen. Didn't want to get too far from the jug.

Is the area good for high banking? If so, great; if not, does anyone have a spare extra large wet suit that would fit a person 5'8" - 210 pounds? If you do, I sure would appreciate you bringing it. I have 5 mm neoprene chest waders which would only be good for long arming. Lastly, how cold is the water in that neck of the woods - as cold as the Arkansas here in Colorado?
