Gold Rushs' John Schnabel has Passed

Postby Hoser John » Sat Mar 19, 2016 6:48 am

John Schnabel is a legendary gold miner in Alaska. He is the patriarch of the Schnabel family, former mayor of Haines, Alaska and shareholder of the Big Nugget Mine.
On 11th February 2016 he celebrated his 96th birthday. On March 18, 2016 he passed away. Surrounded by friends and family. Please show that we are all caring humans during times like this and keep the comments positive and supportive. We are better than this.
Deceased 3/18/16, per post by Gold Rush.
RIP ol'sod as we are greatly diminished by the loss of such a honest miner, great Grandpa/mentor to Parker and a wonderful person to all. John

Sad to see another old timer pass on. But just look at the legacy he left behind! I hope to do so well with my offspring.

What a mining legend and he'll be missed by all who followed the TV show.

Parker was fortunate to have John for a grandfather, friend, teacher, consultant, advocate and visionary. God speed, John.

I had seen something on gold rush I believe last year dedicated to Grandpa John

As I remember he skedaddled to Alaska back in the 50s to avoid some sort of law issue
What I find kinda interesting, no mention of Grandma John
I believe Parker has an uncle, although things are vague in my mind (not unusual)
Landed by ship/boat, settled in Hains Ak, at some point became mayor of Hains, started Big Nugget Mine to occupy his time

Maybe check the "on demand" from your TV provider, maybe You tube, just checked Youtube, there is a show about Grandpa John and Freddy Dodge
Maybe Discovery will rerun the program in his memory
He was/is a dying breed, not many left like him :(
Easy on that spring, water that be some powerful stuff mmmmmmmm
