Hello from Idaho

Hi everybody,
Been reading the board here for a few days and it seems like a nice little forum to hang out at- you all seem helpful and friendly to each other.
I've lived here in Idaho for 35 or so years but am new to mining. (maybe I am getting a jump on retirement by a few years).
Just closed on a 10 acre claim in the Pierce gold country and have a couple of weeks to get my equipment together as the roads should be clear of snow, and my paperwork will be cleared. I'm real excited about getting started!
I know I will have many questions, but only one fer right now:
How far do you all have to travel- miles/ time-wise from your home to get to your claims/ favorite spots? I have 125 miles/ 3 hour drive.

My closest claim is 25 miles away near Boulder Co. Then 140 miles to one in Wyoming and then about 170 to one near Buena Vista Colorado.

120 miles and do it in about 2 hours...
mostly I-90 so speed is not an issue, unless I go too fast!!!

We travel either 4,500 or 5,000 miles over 7 to 15 days to get to our spot. Oh, that's for 5-6 months of mining in Alaska, working out of our home in Trapper Creek.

Oh, if you're talking about a round trip - double that to return to the winter house in Indiana.

Holy smokes Joe, that makes you the undisputed champion of traveling for gold!

The late Gene Bunkley (GOLDAK) used to travel much farther (from Florida). No one could stand close to his yearly trips! My hat is off to his mind shattering efforts.

He now travels from Heaven (a short drive for him now, I'm sure).

When in Alaskan residence, I travel about 35 road miles - any where from 6 hours (!!!) to 1+ hour - depending on the "Road" (goat-trail and driving in stream) conditions.

I once ( ONCE ! ) made it in 1 hour 10 minutes - and afterwords promised I'd NEVER do that again, under any circumstances!

I inadvertently double posted the previous post. Oh well!

I also was to meet Gene that last summer he had. We traveled to the Fairbanks region that summer, but my completely worn out hip and my wife's two shot knees just couldn't make the last little bit of foot travel.

I contacted Gene just as he returned and we agreed that the next summer would be just as good.

Sad, isn't it?
