Dr's Orders

Postby Bonaro » Sat Jul 12, 2014 10:28 pm

Actually a lack of orders...Until I get a "work release" I can't go back to work. The problem is the surgeon who sewed me back up went on vacation...arrrgh
The weather is in the 90's, it's smack in the middle of dredge season and I am going fricken insane.

Decided to catch up on a little clean up...

Russ...not a matter of getting well, its more like adapt and overcome.
I had a disagreement with a band saw and now I don't point as well as i use to. :o

John - question for you. In the pic above I am running my dredge cons through a Gold Screw wheel that is new to me. My old standby wheel is a Gold Genie. After running the cons I feel like the Genie does a better job as I had trouble with the single speed Screw. I plan to re-run the tails through the Genie to see if the Screw missed anything. I pre-screeend everything to -3/16
In your opinion, which is the better wheel for running pre-screened dredge cons?

Question prior to opinion. Do you run 1st time laid back to capture all the black sands-then tilt more vertical to recover the gold from the black sands??. Triple classification really helps wheels-first size-then specific gravity-then gold gravity from black cons(much closer to au sg). I run all cons left over from wheels through either a DAM bowl or mercury treat,as I do my left overs from DAM bowls. I do it in the winter when bored, never got more than a gram or so outta a 100+ lb 7 gallon bucket but sure beats them winter blues and feeds my constant gold fever. Coveth that Genie as one l cool ol'tool. Stay cool this HOT summer and watch them digits :? -John

I tried laid back like you said but the cons wouldn't wash down and just circles the bowl. I played with the angle some but the GS seems to be choking on the cons. When i put enough water presure on it to keep the outer rim of cons from circling the wheel, the riffles would clean out and nothing would climb. My GG has a two speed switch and I have found I can get a much better finish on a lower speed. Maybe I just need to rewire the GS with a speed control

Keeping a close eye on the other 9... My advice: Careful where you stick your fingers ;)
I would post pics but this is a family show

Hey Dan,

Sorry to hear of your runin with an unfriendly saw.
If your out on workmans comp. be very careful of what you say and especially of what you do and where.
They may be lookin over your shoulder and catch you doin something they don't like and deny your claim and want the $$$ they are paying back .

OC is completely right on that point! some companys hire people JUST to watch people on workmans comp! I know that to be a fact. years back I got hurt at work and I had a welding shop also. one of my neibhors was one of those people that snooped around for the company I worked for.. he was up front with me so I didn't do anything to jeopradize my family! they even watch facebook and all of that kind of social media!

I appreciate the heads up but this epic blunder occurred at home on my own time and was driven by my own inattention to basic safety measures. No one to blame but me :?

So I busted out the trusty Gold Genie and ran the tails from the Gold Screw. I recovered a bunch of gold the GS missed. However, I feel its important to note the GS did not have a two speed switch and was running waaay faster than the genie. The other difference is I am much more familiar with the Genie as i have logged many miles on it over the years. I have owned gold screws before but not for some years now.

My plan is to rewire the GS for a slow speed setting and run the cons again from scratch. I also think I will screen down to 10 mesh and run the oversize though the mini highbanker

This is the beauty of prospecting....so many choices :P
