Yukon Ditch

If you watched Gold Rush Dirt last night, you might have seen reference in one of text info blocks to the Yukon Ditch. Here's a link to a 22 page report on the Yukon Ditch.

It was built in 1909 and took a year to complete. It was quite an engineering feat considering the location and where all of the material had to come from. Toward the end it mentions the dredges running then.

Took a year of time.... took three seasons to build.

Thanks to the internet. I find myself putting the dvr into pause and I look something weird up to get more information. A lot of the time the info is totally useless but interesting anyway. If you read through it you might have seen that about the first result of starting the ditch was electricity. That was the same thing here in Colorado in the Gold Pan Mining company in Breckenridge. Electric power for the city. Love them big pelton wheels.
