Thanks Glen and Dan for the answer! I remember those oiler cups on some of the BIG "old" air compressors we had in our Poly-Sonic wind tunnel and some of the electric motors at McDonnell Douglas A/C in St. Louis

If it got water in the reservoir (like from a hard rain), the water would settle to the bottom and then feed out to the bearing. Water makes for a mighty poor lubricant. If you had enough accumulation of oil and dirt in the bearing, ya might get away with it once or twice. But if the bearing froze up, somebody was going to catch hell for the down production time and likely broken belt that went along with the frozen bearing.

With thoughts of production, maybe your all right to some extent.

I can believe that if the issue (what ever the issue) disrupted production, ownership would spend the dollars to keep the issue
from stopping production.
Gotta keep it turning at all costs.
Although, I would think some of the ole timers would put some sort of cap on the oilers, rather than a 100' long dog house covering the entire conveyor.

Micropeds, were they built like that, or was the dog house an after thought ?
