I've had several emails from Matt. They are in their new house in Alabama. They had everything moved from the Florida house but he doesn't know the house condition. He's doesn't have power now as a tree fell across the power line. He'll probably see this and comment more.

Matt and Connie just moved to Alabama. They were tired of the hurricanes.

Thanks Grivy (and the rest of you emailing us). Email we just sent to Leonard and a whole lot of others moments ago:

We just got in from HB a half hour ago. Some water on the sink counter because the window over it leaked, a section of privacy fence out, and sunshade awning blind we used to have opposite the downstairs glass doors looked like it got machine gunned. Just the housing hanging up, all the blinds shredded all over the yard. Neighbor across the street (my old house) had that tree out front fall on the roof (same thing I had happen over there in the no name storm (93).
----------------------------

What we witnessed on the way down: massive power outages (whole communities). Some of our friends won't have power for a couple weeks. No one I know personally lost their home - nothing like Geno went through certainly - but in the keys, exactly the situation he faced.

We were extremely fortunate.

Hi Matt and Connie:

That's great news to hear. I glad it turned out as well as can be expected for the house. It will need some TLC to get it back in shape but at least you still have it to work on. You folks have a great time in AL and best of luck in the new home.

My family and friends down there faired about the same as you.

It'a strange how storms are.
Here in Cape Coral, we have major problems in some areas, others nothing.
I lost some bushes and banana trees and the side door on the garage got damaged, but noting else.
Some places have huge tree's done then across the street the same size tree is standing with no damage.
Power was back on by late afternoon on tuesday 9/12.
Water never went out. other areas have no power no water.
About a mile and a half from here the sewers got damaged the whole area there stinks to high heaven.
We got very lucky here.
South of us much more damage and flooding.
The damage seems very sporadic around here, Key's got hammered, Marco Island and the immediate area's are very bad.

Yup never a dull moment.
But all in all after living through the Loma Prieta earth quake, I rather deal with a hurricane, at least you got some warning and time to grab your important stuff and skedaddle. No such warning with the earth rumblers.
