I received this email from Jim Foley. Jim's Alaska forum's are some of the oldest forums on the internet. Jim is a member of my prospecting forum and posts occasionally. I follow his Alaska Prospecting forum http://bb.bbboy.net/alaskagoldforum-viewforum?forum=2 and have almost forever. It is the best site there is for making Alaska prospecting contacts. Jim has been having problems with his forum host and sent out the below email to his subscribers.

Email is the only way I have of communicating about the forums. As I
expected and told everyone some time ago, something strange has
happened at Best Boards whereby the owner could not be contacted and
no one seems to know what happened to him.

Consequently, with no one at the helm the boards would go down at
some point. This is that point. Now there is only a message that the
account has been suspended when anyone tries to access the forums. I
am sending this email to everyone I have an email address for, which
is not everyone registered on the forums. So, if you will, please
spread the word that the forums are down, I know about it and they
will not ever come back as they were.

I am actively working to find, download and publish new forums. They
will not have the same look , but will be fully operational and easy
to use because I will make sure that any forum format I choose will
be the best available. Please spread the word to anyone you have
contact information for. I will send another email to this email list
with a link to the new forums once I have new forums online. I hope
to see you all online again in the very near future.

Thanks for sharing that with us. It's sad that things like this happen and nothing can be done to retrieve the information lost.

It kinda makes a person wonder about what is going on.

My "trap line" of gold mining forums has grown exceedingly thin. If this keeps up, I am not going to be able to get my daily gold mining "fix".

Jim has a trapping forum as well. It will be down also. When he gets them back up I'll post links to his forums.

Thank you Russ. I don't need anything now, but am grateful for the support. It is looking like I might go with phpBB, they seem to have a pretty good free board software. I also already have a hosting service that I use for my other websites.

When the Alaska Gold Forum comes back up it will only be mining and prospecting, no trapping or hunting. Those other forums have not done well in the last few years. Sometimes a year would go by without a post on them, so that tells me they are not needed.

I also lost the New 49'ers forums because they were with the same provider as the Alaska Forums. I am working to get them back up also.

Jim, now might be a good time to figure out how to make a backup. Good to see you up again.

That's a mystery for sure. Thank for the notice Harry. I wouldn't have even looked.

Leonard, I can't do a backup. That has been just one of the problems all along. None of the admin resources work and there is no way to contact anyone for support. If I could do a backup and retrieve it I could migrate all the info over to any new forum.
Of course I will try it, but unless something weird has changed it won't let me.
