Something to consider - that boulder moved into that position during a flood - a MIGHTY BIG flood.

The incredible water flow needed to move and then drop it there washed the streambed free of all loose material (except maybe inside any cracks, nooks or crannies). When the boulder finally stopped in that spot (chances are on the "tail end"of the flood) only then did loose material begin to fill in, around and then over it. Yes, there will be 'after it stopped' gold on the upstream and downstream sides of it - but the hidden bonanza that everyone always assumes is directly under it will (probably) not actually be there.

It's really nice to see how well you're doing in this area - I'm anxiously looking forward to more pictures - especially the nooks and crannies under the boulder with all that flood gold.

Well i made it for 2 and 1/2 days Digging in the Dry! had a great time moved some rock and found some Yellow! here is the first days gold. first picture is Gold before lunch time, second is after lunch. had to set up the griphoist to move a few boulders!

2nd day had to move some rocks out of the way!

3RD day was 3 hours mining, Check out that round rock with a flat bottom Its 10 feet from where it use to lay now., seems im the first person to turn this rock over, Not even the years of water flowing moved it and it only weighs about 125 pounds! it was sitting on bedrock, i found about half of my gold this trip in front and back of this rock. there were 2 more right behind it that i moved, same thing flat bottom but only a little gold around them, i was tired and i packed up, it was 108 degree when i left! You can see that decomposed bedrock there in the bottom, it looks un worked because i spent 5 hours on this and got 2 or 3 small pieces, i wouldn't give up it looks like it should produce, NOPE!

Well the total weight was a little more then 3.5 grams here is a picture of all of it in a one OZ bottle , But i had a great time, learning more where this gold is coming from, Its pretty crazy the very deepest areas of bedrock i find very little gold, it looks great but the gold is higher up on one side of the channel, here is a good pan, the best 2 pans i had had 10 pickers each, that was cool, 4 pans out of 1 bucket gave me 30 pickers! There is still a ways to go in this area, i need a break , But I Will Be Back!
That big rock that i will work will just have to wait. I was told not to run away from Gold,And i can see the big rock from where i am working maybe 30 feet away.

Remember that a "One Ounce Vial" is a ONE FLUID OUNCE CAPACITY VIAL. ALL vials are referred to by the fluid ounces (or the metric equivalent) that they hold.

Not a one Troy Ounce vial and Not a one Avoirdupois Ounce Vial.

For very small Gold a "One Ounce Vial" (from personal observation) holds a little more than one Troy ounce when packed tightly - although the actual weight varies quite a bit due to size and compaction of the Gold. At a friend's mine a while back the very tiny Gold sizes in a "One Ounce Vial" held about 1.1 Troy Ounces

I always measure the weight of my gold on a digital scale in grams after cooking it, after reading the reply i got curios , here is the one OZ bottle no gold only water 11.2 grams??

So, it would seem that 1 nominal Fluid Ounce (volume) of water weighs 11.2 grams.

Another way of looking at it -- >>>((( 1 US Gallon = 168 Fluid Ounces. 168 divided by 4 quarts = 42 Fluid Ounces to the quart.)))

a Quart bottle (Old Style glass Milk Bottle) holds 42 fluid ounces of milk as a volume and it weighs (it's mass) is "something" (lets just say 1 pound).

Drink the milk, rinse and dry the "Quart Bottle" and now fill it with Mercury. Same Volume (42 fluid ounces) but many, many more pounds in weight.

i asked google what does "ONE FLUID OUNCE CAPACITY VIAL" weigh in grams and this is what i got
29.57 grams
1 US fluid ounce of water (fl-oz) = 29.57 grams of water (g wt.),
Some one is confused probably me.

Lets re-do this:

IN A BAR you ask to see five "1 oz shot glasses" (Yeah, I know, a real shot glass in the US is 1.5 LIQUID ounces - but this is just an example). The bartender goes to the shelf and brings down a selection of five "Shot Glasses". One plain, one decorated, one very heavy glass, one disposable thin plastic one and even a big-ol'e clunky metal one.

EACH shot glass holds EXACTLY the same LIQUID VOLUME of booze. The plain and the decorated thin walled two are light in weight, the plastic one weighs almost nothing, the cut glass one is pretty heavy and the metal one is the heaviest --- and yet they ALL measure out one fluid ounce of the finest whiskey and they all are called "Shot Glasses".

NOW - I leave and go to Google and ask " What is the average weight of a shot glass? After a minute the screen says "The average weight of a shot glass is ~ ~ ~ x.xxx ounces ~ ~ ~. This seems to be what you did with " ...

You have to get the wording just so - or Google will spit nonsense back out.

If you are wanting the weight of 1 oz of water --- well --- you have to be more specific. Is the water:

Fresh, salty, in between or even with some amount of sugar in it? Is it Hot or Cold or at 59 degrees Fahrenheit (considered to be "standard temperature)?
