My understanding is that all motorized mechanical mining (including dredging) within Oregon streams and rivers is prohibited. Maybe others can provided a broader interpretation of Oregon regulations.

In Oregon you can dredge on streams that are NOT ESH (essential salmon habitat). But there are not too many of those that have recoverable gold.

Hi Jim,

How about prospecting using manual methods (panning, sluicing) or small motor powered high-bankers (such as a Gold Hog Piglet)?

Internet forums are not the best place for legal advice. The best I can do is to suggest you call ODEQ and ask them. That way you are covered and won't mistakenly get in trouble.

I heartedly agree with Jim - ALSO - Record all the details and name(s) given as your source(s) because it could end up being one of those awful "He said, She said" kinds of things. Better to work from a position of power than not, eh!
