Cow Creek Gold - Gravel Bar Gold

Hopefully everyone is doing good. Connie and I are in the process of another move - to the Mobile area.

Cow Creek was and is a fantastic place that John Holstrom had fantastic success (and I suspect some right here as well) on.

Hi Matt,

Great source of info for gold seekers regarding Oregon's Umpqua basin and local tribs. Sure recall with smiles the really fun dredging adventures of a couple of decades ago.

Take care on your upcoming move and have a super 2024. Also sending along "Hello's" from Mike, Jimmy the Mule (and myself). Cheers!

Mike T. passes along some recollections...that during the DEF 2002 DEF event spot gold was around $310/ounce and back then Armadillo was paying 75% of spot. A few sold their gold but I kept mine.

While we did nothing close to your famous strike we were quite happy splitting up what we recovered.

Sadly so many of of those shared the river with...are now gone.

Thanks Dave - to the entourage as well!

I kept mine too and finally traded the last of the physical gold (in 2 oz vials) for a bass boat a few years ago.

We had some great times and I'm glad we all answered the call to go when the opportunity was there.

That's great! I haven't been around here or anywhere much - Connie took a bad fall and fractured her hip & broke a rib so we've been dealing with that. She's fine now but probably on crutches for 3 or 4 more weeks.

Well, nothing has really went like we thought it would: just when we thought she had this licked her hip collapsed. Been dealing with that until yesterday when she had a new ball and socket put in. She's up, walking and out of pain (finally). Hopefully it's all better from here on.

Hi Matt, Sending my best wishes to Connie for a full, complete and speedy recovery to Connie. All the best to you.

Jimmy V (from DEF 2002-03) and I are going up to Liberty WA next Tuesday and prospect Swauk Creek with my Gold Hog sluice. The gold there is quite spotty but sometimes we find a gram or two from a day's efforts.

Take care.

How did you do, Dave?

Haven't been around much and missed your reply - Connie is up walking and doing great. I on the other hand went into A-Fib bad, got shocked twice, went through all kinds of tests and still doing them. Have some heart damage but nothing needing surgery so far - though might have to have some electrical work done (ablation). Time will tell.

Matt, sometimes getting old can really suck...this from an old fart with 5 cardiac stents, knee work, shoulder work, and recovered from RSV. If your over 65 don't mess around with RSV, it almost killed me. I strongly encourage you to get the RSV vaccine.
