The forum address must have appeared somewhere new lately. We have been getting an unusual amount of new registrations. I'm deleting all applications that aren't from the US because of the spam problem but there have been quite a few new ones from the states. Antway, welcome to all of the new members. Probably about a dozen in the last week or so. For the newbies, the Private Message part of your registration doesn't become enabled until you post 3 time.

Probably the increased interest in gold mining for many a different reasons, as I have seen lots of newly joined on some other forums as well, especially the Alaska forum (thanks to the show Gold Rush Alaska ).

I've only just recently joined, but have been lurking for awhile now. This site and the old location had a lot of info to absorb before postin my own newbie questions. I miss the activity that there seemed to have been before the site slowed down. It seems as thought it never its activity recovered after it sped back up, but then, is it more to do with the continuing ban on dredging?
There are a handful of other sites I lurk on as well, and only one or two other I post on. I think I just signed up on 49ermikes....
About 3 years ago my friend came up with an idea to have a gold panning camping trip (as opposed to our regular drunk fest camping trips) and that re-fired my old interest in prospecting back before I moved to Washington from Sacto. I jumped in and bought some hand equipment, found some gold (hardly any, but enough to keep at it) and bought a small sluice with another guy. Now i spend wayyy too much time searching for new local locations to investigate.
It's been fun watching gold rise in price and dreaming of the big strike. But after it falls back to $300 or less, I'll still be doing it cause it is just too enjoyable to give up. I plan on teaching my newborn how to do it and how to tromp around in the back country safely and how to share the forest and not take over and kick other users out!

Anyhow, No plans to go to Alaska and strike it rich. I'll stick to my day job 8-)

HI Leonard, Not a newbie in the sense of prospecting but I am a newbie to this site, heck I didn't even know about it lol, I was just surfing the net and lucked up on it. I have been trying to get back in them mix of things since I retired, I kinda lost track of friends and all etc. looking forward to it. I hope to get back in the groove so to speak, I sure miss those claims up near manley h.spgs. and didn't get a chance to meet ya. Jimmy aka Jed (survivorjp)

You described a lot of our prospecting trips. We feel you can combine both easily. It doesn't hurt to have a world famous, award winning brewmaster as one of the group. You haven't lived until you prospect, camp, and drink beer with Billbrew. He usually brings plenty for all.

You have that right! It can definitely be done together. The Oatmeal stout is perfect for numbing sore calves from hiking trying to keep up with him getting to the color areas. I can make them burn just thinking of it again. Good times though always.
