A guy I work with is from Mexico, he came here legally and fell in love with an American woman, they got married had a baby, now 2 more babies, he got his American citizenship about 2 years ago, it took him 6 years and around $10,000 in legal fees to achieve that, and the fact he married an American didn't even come into play too much but did help, there're a lot of hoops they have to jump through to get to become a American citizen and those hoops all cost money all along the way!!

While I was in RVN(68-69) I worked with a guy from Canada...... He joined the U.S. Army for 4 years to get a U.S. citizenship... Why cant these people expedite their own citizenship that way??? Plus in doing it that way he avoided the Canadian 6 year obligation.

It does make it much easiler to apply and be approved if you have or actively serving in the military, they must have been honorably discharged and have to apply within a certain time frame, many of the requirements are reduced or eliminated and the process is expedited, but to join the military they would first have to have a green card from my understanding.
