No problem here on the home front

I was in Denver yesterday visiting my son. We walked up to the store a few blocks away and got rained and hailed on but no big deal. The clouds looked interesting but no tornado sirens where we were. Good thing, my old shop maintains all of them.

We had a hard freeze last night. Hope it didn't get my wife's container garden.

yep we had the sirens going off but just rain and lots of it. the tornados were to the north of us and they did some damage,but we are ok!

Well, I spoke a little too soon. I have 2 acres with irrigation water and a sprinkler system.
This consists of an underground sprinkler system and a 5 hp electric pump. It's good for about 150 gpm at 45 psi and 3 sprinkler zones. I installed the system about 35 years ago.

Last year the pump shot craps. I ordered a similar pump at a cost of $1650.00. I installed it in the same system I had used before figuring a direct replacement should be no problem. Bad assumption! I was only able to get water a couple of time during the summer and I could never get the system to work properly. I got all kinds of crap from the wife about it not working. It would pump but with low pressure and low flow. Reading the instructions, the pump was supposed to be ready to go but re-reading the instructions, it looked like the pump was turning backwards. The instructions said it was already setup to go. It pumped but not right. A centrifugal pump wouldn't work turning backwards or would it? Searching the internet said it might. I reversed the direction and what do you know? It works.

The only problem now was the pressure seemed a little low. I thought that may be because I changed the footvalve from a 2 1/2" to a 2". Good old Keene products. Further investigation lead me to water bubbling up from my driveway. It seems one of the sprinkler lines 2 1/2 feet deep froze last year.

I'm still digging to find the extent of the problems. Digging at 70 years old isn't as easy as it used to be. I switched from highbanking to dredging because of that. Now even dredging is too much work.

As rough as it is, its good to know that you can still do it! Me, on the other hand would have had to hired someone else to do it! I get a rash even thinking of a sssssssshhoovvvvvel!

After bsng about this for over a month this is what it has come too. Call OLA MANUEL and you'll have a panama canal for a case a beer. Now the no pumpa pumpa blew the bloody line,now what d'LL is that? Good luck with them lines but might be time for a pressure regulator-John
