Well, we know from officials working the fire that they put in containment lines and backfired across the river from us. I heard their chainsaws two days ago working on the ridge across the river. I think these lines contained the southern perimeter of the fire directly across the river from us.
They are letting it back down to the river using backfires and containment. They think this will give the main fire less fuels to burn and hopefully they can control how it gets to the river.
The only thing they are doing on the south side of the highway is preparing houses for protection. They put sprinklers on my roof. They are concerned about spot fires from burning embers.
I did see one place downriver just a bit from Hamburg where they were putting fire crews across the river with rafts, I saw about forty guys being ferried across.
I just came back from looking over the situation upriver from us. Went as far as Scott River. They are using pilot cars to route traffic past where the fire is burning down to the rivers edge between here and Horse Creek, they did that last week also when the fire burned up Horse Creek.
