The black kokanee, or "kunimasu" in Japanese, was thought to have died out in 1940, when a hydroelectric project made its native lake in northern Akita Prefecture more acidic.

Before then, 100,000 eggs were reportedly transported to Lake Saiko but the species was still thought to have died off.

But Tetsuji Nakabo, a professor at Kyoto University, said his team of researchers found the species in Lake Saiko, about 310 miles (500 kilometers) south of the native lake.

"I was really surprised. This is a very interesting fish — it's a treasure. We have to protect it and not let it disappear again," he said.

Possible ice volcano spied on giant Saturn moon

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Scientists say they have found the best evidence yet of an ice volcano on Saturn's giant moon Titan.

During a flyby, the international Cassini spacecraft spied two peaks over 3,000 feet tall and what looked like volcanic flows on Titan.

Results were presented Tuesday at the American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco.

There's been ongoing debate about whether volcanoes exist on ice-rich moons in the outer solar system. A previous sighting of a possible ice volcano on Titan turned out to be wrong. Such a volcano may spew ice and hydrocarbons instead of lava.

Now if they just don't eat them for the effect of some exotic aphrodisiac then they might have some sort of chance at surviving.

dnr had a fight over a bridge here, it seems there was a endangerd mussle in the river. the funny part is it may be endangerd in the river, but every lake along the river that drains in to a creek has millions of them. strange how nobody will look at a lake for a river mussle, but if a lake is in the flood plan there will be all kinds of endangerd criters that hide there.
