Reclaimed mine site

Postby golden optimist » Wed Apr 17, 2013 7:37 am

This is the old Burlington, a reclaimed mine site near Jamestown, Co. This was a real mess about 10 years ago.

This is Corky and my youngest son Scott. You can see the site in the background.

This is an evaporation pond with the "bad mine water" kept in a lined pond. The things in it are tennis balls to keep the birds from landing in it.

Is that dead guppies between the tennis balls?
Good thing I wasn't there with my dog. There'd be less tennis balls!

It was fenced off good. I don't think you'd want your dog in it. The pond was lined and this was the drainage out of the old mine. It looked like it was an evaporation pond. This http://www.opalgroupinc.com/burlington.shtml says theres 45,000 of the birdballs there.

We were headed to a gold mine but couldn't get access to it that day. We ended up at the burlington site instead. It was a gold mine and about 200 yards from there was this.

Hey, Boss. Your old post says you hauled off a bucket of the florite stuff. What did ya find?
A little research says florite is often found in the base rock and is associated with lead and zinc deposits. Find any of that stuff?
