Randy Sluicing Arkansas River, CO -- 16 Jul 13

Hey Gold Dredgers...

Met up with Rex & his wonderful wife, out from Nebraska, yesterday for a few hours on the Arkansas River sluicing for flood gold. The day was awesome.

We watched lots of rafters & kayakers go by our position, navigating the rapids & boulders.

Interesting thing was after about 1 hour od sluicing the river level came up dramatically, making both our sluices clear better and run faster. Nice!

We dug material at the water line around some bigger rocks.

Here's my gold "take":



Not a bonanza..... 1.8 grains or .12 grams, and a LOT of lead fishing sinkers & some bird shot cleaned from the river.

Hope to meet them again this Friday for a little more sluicing, if possible.

I plan on being up a Splash also around 1 Aug for about 4 days. Bringing my gold cube so Randy can give me some pointers. Anyone that's coming up, if you have a Le Trap sluice, I sure would like to see it in operation, and use it, if possible. Based on it's ability to capture fine gold the concentrates should be great for running thru the cube. Not sure if I should bring my Proline 3" dredge/highbanker combo unit or not.

Leonard, are you going to be up there the same time frame dredging? Love to try it, but I don't have a hooka set up (harness or regulator), nor weights. I've got an old scuba mask and snorkel, so I can long arm it.

Randy, Sorry we missed meeting up on Friday, was kind of a blur once my daughter and her friend showed up.

I need to work out my cons yet. Still recovering from the 10 hr drive home and back to work..

Looking forward to the end of Sept!!! see the aspens turn and low water on the Ark.

I talked to John earlier today and he won't be there until friday afternoon. He's picking up my 4" dredge for his son friday morning and will be at the Stone Cabin area near Clear Creek reservoir area in the late afternoon. I won't be making it down there but Ed and Dave should be at our splash claim saturday. Thats a left turn after crossing the Arkansas on the bridge instead of headind right downriver towards the GPAA Railroad Bridge claim.

Nice Randy, I"m heading up to South Dakota next week and can't wait, been sick for 3 years and I"m dying to be back prospecting.......... YEHAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!! Got my 5th wheel loaded up and taking my camera also.
