Pump seal cross reference

I'll going to end up buying it from Keene, as soon as I get off this board. It just seems like I'm reaching over my shoulder to scratch my butt, since there are alot of industrial supply stores here in Houston. I just though that someone might have already done the cross referencing and would be able to give me a manufacturer and part number that I could pick up locally.

i was told by a pump repair shop here in St.louis,Mo. that,"just bring the old seal in and we will match it up with another"!i was just checking on avaliability of this part incase of an emergency. i have keene seals for all of my pumps.

My whole point was that I really don't think that Keene manufactures the seals. They make alot of stuff but some things are already engineered so why design another one when you can use an off the shelf item? When mine arrives I will take it to an industrial supplier to find an exact match. Just so I and everyone else will know for next time.

Trev your right! 2 years ago in needed some mounting nuts for my yellow Keene pontoons. i called and they said they dont have that stuff. it ended up being drywall anchors (S1/4) that tighten into the marlex plastic when you tighten them down!

Like many small-medium manufacturing companies in the U. S., Keene Engineering offloads a lot of their production manufacturing fabrication and material processing (i.e. metal fab and plating) for their best selling units to other companies (suppliers). A lot of the parts used in their equipment designs also have a unique design standards they have used after years of R&D, product development and operational performance analysis from out in the field. This cuts down on Keene's costs, gives you better reliability and also holds down on the new product costs (saving you some money). This is "Business Economic 101"

I recall the story of the cost of a new automobile if you went out and bought each one of the tens of thousands of cars parts from OEM suppliers and the dealer's parts department...which means a $25,000 vehicle new would cost at least $200,000 if made from those single parts. That does not include labor for assembly.

Sometimes it just makes good sense to go to the original manufacturer or retail outlet and pay the price.

And sometimes get off your butt and source parts for yourself or you end up with nuttn' that's working. and or a empty wallet. Extras are the true answer to answer any procurement problems and more sources,called due diligence-John

i have sourced bearings. one machine i did it for had a odd size. it did cost more at a bearing ware house than going to the maker. it does sound strange but the tool maker would order them by the thousands and they were ones that used all of the bearings. it was a very odd size, they did it just to be mean i guess. so stocking them at the ware house was not a good ideal.

now then like on my Suzy motorcycle i could use the numbers on the bearings to get new ones. heck i think changing all 4 in the wheels cost me about 30 bucks.
