Highest paid guys were paid 11.47% of an ounce per shift...
In todays price of gold (dollars) that would be roughly $138 per shift or $17.25 an hour (assuming only 8 hours as stated)
1936 gave us the Social Security Act - but today we'd have to add in the costs of Workers' Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, Medicare and Obamacare
