Venting My Frustration

Postby tcfifer » Sat Apr 03, 2010 9:26 pm

Navigating this fine web site has become more painful than Net Zero on dial-up! Leonard, is there a reason why it takes so long for everything to load?

Sometimes I get lucky and get around fairly easy. Then there's days like today when it takes friggin' forever to get anything to load!! Are your server folks screwing with you? Or did you forget to pay this month's rent ?

Hey Leonard, I'm having some way too long lag times myself.... I think you need to whip them squirrels to pick up the pace a bit.

I agree. I've submitted a trouble ticket. We'll see if it does any good. I'll keep you posted.

My fourm at http://golddredger.com/forum is running horribly slow. Some times it takes 20-45 seconds or more to get a response. See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=222 for user comments. It's not the connection to the server. I have an old forum at
http://golddredger.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi
and it responds great. It's either in the phpbb connection or the mysql server connection.

My main purpose of having this hosting account is for the forum. If I can't run it at a reasonable spped, there is little reason for me to continue this hosting account.

Several days ago it worked great for a da or so but the last few days it's almost worhless. I've complained once in the past and just got the "everything looks normal" response. The user comments don't agree with that answer.

Lets see,

A couple of says ago it was before "Good Friday". Now, Friday was a no-school day for many as well as a no work day. This weekend is, of course, Easter Weekend - with the reduced work attendance and increased internet use also.

I have seen high volume really screw up response times in the past, and that may have been a complicating factor here. Spring Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas - they all gum up the works.

Having said that, I also have had a noticable lag, at times, here - during off hours as well as prime time. Not a lot, but noticable.

There is a Canadian Mining forum, very well thought of, that I have had to just bypass. Consistantly 55 seconds from key stroke to screen display. The best PROfessional troubleshooters and webmasters can determine is that it must be a rogue relay point between here and there. A bottleneck that just slows my (but not other) connections.

I certainly understand the frustration with slow responses - but it could be LOTS worse.

For now I will put up with the slightly slow responses from here, and just blame LEONARD. Not for any possible thing that he has (or has not) done - just because it's such fun.

I'll be camped out here for the long haul -- because -- When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Just Go Get a Beer.

LEONARD, Thank you for trying to get the slow-up fixed.

High usage seems a likely scapegoat, but does not explain why it was sooooo slow at 5AM on Easter. I, too, have had problems with having to login. I really enjoy this site and will keep coming back.

One suggestion, open another tab and check out other sites while this one is loading. Just a thought.

I agree with others. Today it is all but worthless. A couple of days ago it was great.
