Roaring Camp Bound!!!

Postby Stumpdust » Sun Aug 30, 2015 8:16 am

We are heading to Roaring Camp this week, my 4 kids are begging to go, so we are gonna go , i have been going there since i was 13 years old, so its been 34 years now- i wont be mining as dredging with a motor is a no no still., i had a great spot there that would produce 3-4 DWT a day it was hard work to get to bed rock 6-9 feet down thru the rocks, but i usually hit bedrock the first day dredging, and saw gold from there on every day till i left, which sometimes was a month later, i miss those times , should be a fun get away

I spent a week there with John Mason somewhere around 2000. Had a great time. I was there over my anniversary so I called and had some flowers delivered to the wife. She was pissed when I got home. Seems the card that they wrote up said "Happy anniversary sweatie.

Leonard, i remember seeing your postings about it, i even remarked that you were dredging in an area i did before, i was wrong about that, you were in virgin territory with your 6 inch dredge. In 2001 thru 2009 i dredged about 75 feet above the center of the river where you were, not where John was on the lower side next to the bank,Im pretty sure it was you that brought the 6inch???, anyways i cut a path across the river about 30 feet wide over 8 years, and pulled allot of OZs out of there, when i go back and look at my spot its been untouched since the 2009 ban, i get a tear in my eye!!!! im sure it will happen again next week. it was deep to bedrock i had a new HYd winch 13,000 # pull, i anchored it to a tree on the bank then all the way across the river to a giant Oak high up in a crotch maybe 10 foot high i had a block there, i used 1/2 synthetic rope rated at 88,000 #s on the winch, once i was hooked up to a massive boulder even if it was 10 foot down, that high line would get her up on the bank 50 feet away from my hole, after my time was up there was a HUGE pool to swim in, and i would have huge native Brown/RainbowTrout swimming in there with me every day- it was so cool with my kids and father working with me. good times for sure!!

:D Good ol' Roaring Camp never quits providing a fantastic time and some great color always-Drought conditions are a huge factor but without a water guzzling dredge should be ok.. Drive safe, hope you have a productive trip-John

You still should have water, the hydros haven't sucked all the water off yet, but they are trying.
The water should be nice and warm.
The Sierra House restaurant in Pine Grove isint what it used to be.

Enjoy your selfs.

Yep, Waffle House is our breakfast location, unless we are headed upcountry.

Have fun and enjoy the surroundings.

Thanks for thinking of me, we spent our 3 days in camp with family and friends, went hiking down past the falls twice, hiked up to the Mary Hope cabin, spent some time at Caesars diggins, floated down past the swimming hole, Jumped off Jump rock in the swimming hole, had a great Saturday night steak dinner, and i did use a wis bang for a few on the Marble slab, all in all it was great ,been back to work already so i missed the fires hope it doesn't get HUGE!!!!
