Gun Control Flops in OZ

What a waste. Wonder if the people now feel any safer? Guess they don't hunt in Australia.

Very Interesting !

Australian Gun Law Update

Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts....
From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like... to see the real
figures from Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to
surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own
government, a program costing Australia taxpayers
more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria.....
lone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that
while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not
and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady
decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins andassaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the
hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note Americans, before it's too late!
Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in?
WHY? You will need it.

Well, I guess the idea that guns are the root of the problem, isn't fact.

If a person wants to kill another person, they WILL find a way.

Solution seems to be punish the felon.

I'm not against licensing a gun user after completing a safety and use program similar to what we do with drivers now. That seems like a good idea to protect folks against accidental discharge incidents. But a criminal with intent, will still find a way to get his/her deed done.
As for punishing those that commit a violent act with a weapon, then maybe removing the fingers on both hands except the thumb and pinky would keep them from from handling a firearm or knife ever again. They could still feed themselves and write their name, but not much else. DUH
It's time we stop blaming everybody that wants to own a gun and start punishing those that don't respect the law or other folks.

These are very serious actions and until the people and the government politicians look for a real solution to this dilemma, these tragic events will sadly continue.
My heart goes out to the victims and their loved one, but I feel the same way for a victim, that has been killed by a drunk diver or any other senseless irresponsible act.

Maybe some day this will be resolved, but till then all we can do is comfort the victim's families and loved ones.

Doesn't seem like much of a solution to me.

No ADDITIONAL LAWS WILL STOP ANYTHING! Gangs , crooks ,drug addicts don't give a sqwat about laws ! and until the police stop these gangs from doing what they do , itll never stop! BUT Im all for good gun control ! more time spent at the range , all the better!

If its NOT in your hand ,chambered , then why do you bother having one for protection? when they kick your door down and rush you with a hammer or club or a stolen .45 will you have time to jump up and run to your secerat hiding place for your gun , unlock it ,load it and then run back to save the world?? I really doubt that you can! what the last 2 posts say is completely correct!! shooting at a range isn't ANYTHING like someone charging you and you must act out of instinct to draw and shot calmly and that takes a lot of practice! increased adrenaline causes you to make lots of rushed mistakes. PRACTICE , PRACTICE , PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the adage, "Buy Cheap, Bury Deep" comes to mind. the two FFL holder i know who i generally buy from indicate they will shred forms if confiscation occurs.
I think a lot of FFL holders would do that.

in the last 8 years since BHO took office i have purchased several things, he is a better gun sales man that LaPierre. under the table,
out of sight and out of mind. coated with Cosmoline, wrapped in news papers, rags and sealed in PVC.. If you don't need it. But at least its there when you do need it.
