Please practice the following--I AIN'T SEEN NOTHING--I AIN'T FOUND NOTHING--AND I DON'T KNOW A DAMN THANG!!!! Your life will be easier--just go to a payphone, check parking lot for security cameras that record you and auto LP #, and call it in and your free after wiping off the receiver--John

But, if johnny law finds out later that you did see something, did find something, or did know something, you can now go to jail for... lying to the police! Remember, Martha Stewart went to jail but not for illegal stock trading but for lying to the police. It was her word against the word of her drug addicted former assistant who cut a deal with the Feds in exchange for his testimoy against her and, well, we know who's word they believed.

There is only one thing you shuold ever say to the police, "I have nothing to say."

Anonomously calling from a pay phone with no camera surveliance is about the only way you can talk to the police safely.

What you have to remember about telling the truth is this: there are over 77,000 pages of Federal Laws plus all the state and local laws. Do you know what all of them say? No you don't and I don't either.

In telling the truth you could unknowingly be confessing to breaking one that the agent you are talking to knows about.

Hey Dawg, I got a chuckle when I saw your avatar pic.. It reminded me of a time when I was prospecting in Ak. a few years back. I had driven as far out a road as the snow would allow, and carried my prospecting bag to the edge of the river. There was a commotion up stream and I saw a large moose walk to a small island. I figured I might as well grab my camera and see if I could get a pic or two. I wandered upstream in the bush and got a nice view of the moose and was just about to click the shutter when I hear a car door shut downstream. Well.. I had left my prospecting bag on the shore down there, and a little bit of gold too. I started back to the car and had to cross the stream again so I jacked a shell out of the chamber of my shotgun. (Never went without!!) I finally made it back to the shore just to see some guy going through my bag! He was standing back to me, looking at one of my vials of gold, and I softly walked up behind him. At about 10 feet away, I jacked a shell into the chamber, and asked " you find anything interesting there buddy?" At the unmistakable sound of chamering a round, the guy froze and raised his hands. After verifying nothing had been removed, we talked and he said he was on vacation from Iowa and figured some poor prospector got eaten by a bear.. lol Well. the fear in this guys eyes was priceless!! And, I bet he will never forget that sound!. It brings a smile every time I think of it. I can also say that I've been on the other side of barrel too, but that would be a diferent story, lol. Great avatar..... John

The reporting officer is merely attempting to gather as much data as possible from any and all verifiable sources. The personal info requested sounds more like basic first hand witness identification info, chain of evidence and origin and source of such. Beyond that, name, rank, serial number, date of birth kinda stuff, you have the right to direct them to your attorney. I don't see an infringement going on there, or any reason to be concerned, although an officer may see an individual leaning towards governmental conspiracy theories who might tend to see things a bit differently.

The officer is compiling all available data to be put together in a report that will be read and reviewed by her or his supervisor which will die on the vine or become interesting reading for those individuals of the various other agencies assigned to cold case files. Who knows, maybe someone's grandma disappeared in the area years before.

 In Redding yesterday a good samaratan found a body under a building and called it in to the cops and waited around for them--well take a guess what--they beat the poor mo'fo'half to death, cuffed and stuffed and thrown into a friggn' squad car and being prosecuted because he didn't know squat. Go to Redding.com for the complete story---HONESTY IS NOT THE BEST POLICY IN MANY SITUATIONS NOWADAYZ-- John
