Whole lotta whim and a prayer a going on and I for 1 think it's righteous. The spirit(or fever) whatever, is alive and well. Kudos to anyone anywhere who still has the testiculiar fortitude to try at least, and it was good too...not saying I ain't paying the piper but worth it..John

It's not that I can't dredge any more. It's that the icy water hurts too much.

So I graduated to a dozer and wash plant. Longer season that way.

Back when I was much younger and dredging with my partner in CA we'd usually look for someone who was just getting started in gold mining. We'd offer to teach the 'newbie' the finer points of working on a larger gold dredge (like tossing cobbles, doing topside stuff and moving gear). For their involvement in our team we'd provide the equipment and basic instructions. We'd refer to him as the "mule". For their efforts they'd get a smaller share of the gold and we'd be free from many of the heavy lifting jobs. Mules usually stuck around for a couple of years before finding more productive work on another dredging operation.

Seems now I need to find a new "mule" for my new(er) 3" dredge. Russ, you too need to find a mule. The knowledge you have as well as the dredging gear can offer a beginner with basic dredging knowledge. Cheers!

Dave your correct ! I have posted such on the net without any reply's . Im guessing most people that read my post were "recreational" ..................OR just metal detector type of people! Some people in the club I belong to have claims in AZ. and Alaska and I've been invited to them BUT its just to far for most to go!

I've found that just calling the newbies "Dredge Tenders" helps with their morale. I like to put them on the nozzle asap, especially when just moving material and opening up a new hole. It helps them understand that moving rocks, away from the nozzle, just clouds up the hole, and inhibits production. Telling them is one thing, letting them see for themselves helps the lightbulb come on.
I usually carry a small vial of local gold with me at all times, just to show to younger people, that show interest in prospecting.
You have to bait the hook to get a bite.

Absolutely must agree but the fact remains . You should not kick a dog when it's down as it'll bite you in the ankles anyhow and he's also on the bottom with the gold too.... ...-John
