Don't count on it Harry, age can be a trickster. I always thought that when I got too old to do the physically hard mining I could always nugget shoot. Not physically difficult at all huh?

Now that I'm there I find that there are other physical limitations that I never thought of that make even detecting dangerous to impossible for me. My legs and feet make me so unstable that it requires a cane to even stand or walk at all. And that's on flat surfaces, nugget shooting requires navigating difficult ground. Of course difficult ground is not difficult for most people that have no limitations.

Dredging would be a very welcome activity at this stage of life, even if I had to find a young guy to teach. ( He gets to do the hard hauling up and down banks)

Hopefully with the Rinehart case going to the U.S. Supreme Court, we have some hope of getting back in the water.

I don't think I could make it back up the bank if I went down. It's not that I'm so bad, the claim just has some pretty steep access. I had a great run when I was younger. I don't mind taking it a little easier now. Good to see you are still checking in Jim. I look at your forum every day.

Say there,

For all you old guys - just get a place with a decent sized stream - like Jim and the Klamath. If you can't make it up the bank you can be rolled and then towed out to a raft and floated downstream (test panning as you go, of course) to a better climb out spot. Of course, Jim and Leonard always have the better ideas - a well muscled, young rookie.

A few years ago I had to 'Bug Out' quickly from my location due to imminent (!) end of season snow right after a summer of heavy flooding, very attention getting in the mountains of Alaska. I had been keeping only the equipment I needed at the work site (a highbanking operation on the bottom of a 45 deg. "hill") but pump, hoses, highbanker and hand tools suddenly looked as though some things just weren't going to make it out. I had a younger and much stronger fellow there with me and he just took the 2" Honda pump on one shoulder and a hand full of other 'stuff' in the other hand and walked up the 'hill' as though out for a stroll -- and he also made multiple trips, too.

Humbling, very humbling although the saving point was that I shared many years of hard won experience with him over the time we were together.

Some might remember "Zenolite" from Jim's forum - 'twas he. He had some unique ways of thinking, but a good hearted guy, nonetheless. ;)

About 10 years ago I carried a 6.5 Honda and pump up a 60 degree hill at Douglas Creek. That was 10 years ago though. Now it would take me a while just to get myself up the hill.

Leonard you forgot to mention the "built in seats" as you go up / down that hill to your dredge hole! BUT I got to agree that Im not sure I could make it back up either! ;)

By the way Russ, how is the second knee doing? Wondering if you had it done yet.
