What they need to do is CHARGE THEM with DOMESTIC TERRIORISM instead of vandalism or some other mild slap on the wrists!

Yep, just an excuse to cause meyheim and destruction on people and businesses that work hard trying to make a living.
It has been concluded that most of the trouble comes from people outside bough in to cause trouble.
Several arrested, only to be rearrested at other "rallies" again and again

Yes, Berkeley, the home of free speech...as long as we agree with the speech
Same on our campus, if you have a different opinion than those of power, best to keep it to yourself

The rally cry...LET THE LOOTING BEGIN.

That might do some good if they would put some jail time to it. Lets see how they protest to Bubba. The problem is they just slap their hands and end up turning them loose.

They are out the next morning......and DONT care if they get arrested again ! These are the gang members that want to create havoc so it will cover up what they are doing! And the protesters see this and DONT do anything about it! YEP , they do have the right to protest BUT allowing these criminals to keep at what they're doing is ALSO WRONG!

Same revolving door policy here since the feds mandated the prisoners were too crowded. Some here 18 times this year for car theft-no longer a felony-out the next day OR as jails full to the brim too. No punishment, just 3 hot meals,a cot for the night and good to go. One thief was busted leaving the courthouse(stolen car charge)in a stolen care and rearrested-out the next day to rob, rape and pillage the next day-John

I am very much aware that judges were probably correct in their assessment that we were violating prisoners' rights by overcrowding them in our prisons.

Yet what has occurred as a result is mayhem. While the state has undoubtedly improved on that front, it has left those of us who are law-abiding citizens with greatly decreased rights and abilities to lead a happy life.

As the prisoners have been shifted to local jurisdictions, there is no room in the Shasta County Jail and the result has been an ever-increasing cycle of homelessness, drug use, untreated mental illness, criminal activity with multiple repeat offenses sometimes the same day with little or no penalty.

Law enforcement officers do their best but are completely overwhelmed.

So where does this terrible situation leave the rights of citizens who have followed the rules of society, done our best to be considerate of others, and in essence followed the golden rule? For my part, I moved to Redding to enjoy hiking our fabulous trails and to fish, kayak and boat our numerous waterways.

I must scream out loud. My rights as an elderly, law-abiding citizen are being totally violated. My use of trails and other facilities that I enjoyed so much just a few short years ago have been taken away by hordes of homeless that at best panhandle and at worse threaten, rob or injure.

They have taken over. It is even hard to shop for necessities at Safeway, the Dollar Store, Westwood Village, etc. without being accosted in the parking lots. Then there is the illegal camping problem. First and foremost is fire danger. Had the wind been blowing, most likely our entire block of homes where I live would have burned in the middle of July. It is most likely the homeless started a fire at the Clear Creek, Highway 273 crossing by WinRiver recently.

People are camping in increasing numbers in the woods close to that location, yet little is being done. We are just waiting for the eventual consequence that a fire will be started that cannot be controlled.

As others, I do not know the solution to this problem. This started as an attempt to not violate prisoners' rights. It must end with our elected leaders' future actions doing everything possible to start to change course and start protecting the rights of its law-abiding majority.

Don Cooper lives in Anderson.

Into the second week of protesting...............looks like it's going to be a long Fall / Winter this year! The gangs OR the s88t disturber's are causing the problems , NOT the PROTESTER'S ! It's these organized agitator's that are being the one's that are causing the damage and riot's and the peaceful protester's are the recipient's of all the blame! The police are doing their job and I think I couldn't / wouldn't put up with what they are..... after all , how many times can you say (over a bull horn) that this protest has become unlawful and to leave the area immediately ???? The other day this was the scenario and 150 people turned and left the area ,while 7 stated and were violent when they got arrested. They were released the next day pending charge's (and got it1) NOW they are saying they didn't hear the warning..................YEH RIGHT!
