Yeah - but there must be friends in AK who would not mind having their wood ash disposed of for them. At least it might be worth a try since wood ash doesn't cost much.
Years ago I performed temporary duty with the USAF Eilson AFB and there the black cinder residue from the power plant is spread on the road surfaces. In exchange for better grip and snow melting was the ever present "black mud" on your shoes during the winter. Break-up rain washes the traces away and back to the natural recycling process.
