Hot weather

Postby golden optimist » Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:52 am

It's been hot here lately. I really miss my trips to Alaska and my dredging here. That clear water sure looks good. I'm afraid that if I got in the water I wouldn't be able to get out. Sure was great while it lasted.

Sobering thoughts Leonard, I can identify with them. At this stage of life all we get to do is sit back and dream of times gone by.

It looks like the Similkameen river will be really low this year, even lower then when the old timer who keeps this site going was on the river. A lot like it was in 2003. Fires & smoke drove me off the river last year, hoping this year maybe better.

Just remember guys as we get older we find that we can't always remember some of the places we have been. So when out dredging on the river we end up
dredging those old spots we dredged out years ago and wonder why we aren't seeing any gold.

Leonard,

July this summer it was 90 degrees+ at my cabin in Trapper Creek (mile ~ 115 Parks Hwy). Also, the big wild fire (called "The Denali Fire") was 25 miles and southward from us, too, really making it smoky at times throughout the entire region. Trapper Creek (usually 3 feet deep) was completely dry for over a month.

I made it to Idaho for the winter a few days ago so you guys are stuck with me again.

Several year's back while on the Douglas Creek dredging I tasted smoke from my hooka. I popped up and it looked like a fog bank rolled in BUT it was all smoke from the fire up there. The BLM people were already at our camp on the flats and telling us to leave right now ! We all had to drive out the long way to get to Larime That was a 16 hour drive there for 1/2 day dredging and after driving into Larime, Wy. we drove back home to Misery the next day. I had my knees replaced the next couple of years after that! That was the beginning of the end for me for dredging !
