Helicopter Recon

Postby Bluebeard » Tue Jun 08, 2010 8:27 am

I posted this in the other miners board too. This Thursday or Friday, weather permitting, I am renting a helicopter to do a photo recon of my claim off the middle fork of the Yuba above Tyler Foote Crosssing Road. It is in a difficult canyon and I need to resolve some potential issues with some photos for the record. The whole 2 hour trip will cost me almost $1000. I was wondering if anyone else who had a claim within my flight plan would be interested in also getting some photos of their claim during high water? I am trying to figure out a way to help pay for this expensive flight. If maybe I took some photos of your claim, maybe some of you guys can help sponsor the flight. I also may be interested in selling a single seat on the flight- but you cannot weigh more than 200 lbs.

The route I am planning on taking will extend from Auburn Airport to Bullards Bar, up the North Fork Yuba to the 49'er bridge, then hopping over the hill to the Middle Fork of the Yuba and spending some time in the Tyler Foote Crossing area and then travelling up the middle fork all the way up to almost Milton Reservoir, from there I will head back towards Auburn covering the upper reaches of the South Fork of the Yuba, Deer Creek, and down the Greenhorn Creek watershed, back to Auburn.

If anyone is either interested in a seat on this flight or some photos of their claim from the air, email me at mtnblue@exwire.com with your phone number so I can call you. For photos of your claim, I will need exact coordinates of where it is and what exactly you want me to look for and take photos of.

It looks like the weather is not going to cooperate with me. I want to go up when there is no wind. The forecast for the next few days is windy. So it looks like Sunday may (or may not) be the earliest I can get up with little to no wind.

So far no takers. I am surprised I am the only one who wants to see my claim from the air. Either it is because all of you guys have already "been there, done that", don't care what it looks like, or are financially strapped. Either way, I am looking for anyway to anyhow offset my costs, if you have any ideas, I'm all eyes.

Wish I had a big claim in the area to scope out at high water.
to offset your cost....You could always keep your eye open for hidden groves of "medicine" ;)

I'd love to see pictures of the South Yuba between washington and edwards crossing but I don't think I can be of any help to you. Hope you find what your looking for.

I would have some interest as a passenger. I own property on Deer Creek near Lake Wildwood and also riverfront up near Downieville on the upper middle branch of the North Fork. Send me a PM and we can talk about it some more.

Bluebeard,
Wish I could help. First off I don't meet the 200lb limit  but would love to fly over that area. Had a friend take me through that area back in the 80's to show me where he had dredged years previously. Had a great day. Hiked from Tyler-foot bridge up past Bloody Run Creek. met some people & saw lots of interesting stuff, found some good gold panning. The claim he dredged on (with permission) was about half mile down from the mouth of Bloody Run Creek. I wish you well...T

Matt and Tommyknocker- contact me via email- actually the weight limit is 300 lbs ( I mistyped) but the lighter the better so we can carry more fuel. Email me soon as possible- I want to get up there sometime this week. my email is mtnblue@exwire.com- send me your phone number and I will call you today.

Another thing, if you are paying for a seat and in the course of the flight we are flying over an area you want to look at, of course we can divert so you can take photos. We will be flying out of Auburn- flying over Nevada City, S Fork of the Yuba below Purdons crossing, Middle fork of Yuba by highway 49 crossing, then the North Fork Yuba up from Bullards Bar to Highway 49 crossing, hopping over the hill heading south, past Oregon Creek and into the Middle Yuba drainage near Tyler Foote Crossing Road. I then will go up Kanaka Creek a ways then hop over to the middle fork and follow it all the way up to Jackson Meadows Res. From there, we will head back over to the South Yuba to the east of Washington, over the ridge to the Upper Deer Creek Drainage, down greenhorn creek to Rollins Res and back to Auburn. That is a lot of gold mining country to see from the air and it is AWESOME. Email me @ mtnblue@exwire.com if you are interested- I will consider all offers.

Bluebeard, better get a move on the snow is in full melt and won't be much longer and the flows will drop back.
I know I would rather see a 100 year flood from a hire heli, or at least something like spring 98'.

Cal Gold- don't remind me... the last few weeks of strong winds really sucked. In the next few days I will get up there.
