Dan Lundgren - California

Postby golden optimist » Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:34 pm

After submiting my concerns somewhere in California, I started getting emails from Dan Lundgren, 3rd district. Believe it or not, I actually read every one of them. I don't know weither he is democrat or republican or whatever. He seems to think the way I do. Take a look at his latest letter to me.

Dear Leonard,
After more than six weeks home in Sacramento, I have returned to Washington. Congress is back in session and the feedback we received while home should be turned into action in the Capitol. While home, I met with many constituents, friends, neighbors, employers, and employees who were deeply concerned about the direction Congress is taking our country. The prospect of tax increases, trillion dollar deficits, and unclear new federal mandates taking effect in the coming years has many of you – and me – worried. How are businesses to create jobs when they do not know how federal mandates will affect their ability to grow? How will families budget for their mortgages and other needs when unsure if their taxes will increase?

With these important issues on the minds of those across California’s Third District, Congress returned to session late Tuesday afternoon to vote on congratulating Miami Dade College on its 50th anniversary. On Wednesday the House voted on naming a post office in Wisconsin. This is not the action that my constituents expect Congress to take as we face an unemployment rate of 12.7 percent in our area. It is not the action that the people need right now.

This is unacceptable. We are in Washington to do the people’s work, and that means addressing the problems most important to you: jobs, taxes, the economy. That is why yesterday I signed a discharge petition for my legislation, H.R. 5141, which repeals a new requirement that every business-to-business transaction totaling more than $600 be filed with the IRS on a 1099 form. My legislation has gained 170 co-sponsors. Moreover, when forced to take a position on the repeal, a majority of Democrats support it. But despite this broad, bipartisan support for the repeal of this 1099 requirement, the bill remains stalled. If 218 Members sign the discharge petition, H.R. 5141 will be forced to a vote. The American people deserve a Congress that is responsive to their needs and listens to their concerns. Failing to act on the matters that are most important to you cannot be tolerated, and as long as I am in Washington, I will continue to be your voice and to fight for your priorities.

Sincerely,

Daniel E. Lungren
Member of Congress

He sounds great to me! If he was in Colorado, I'd vote for him.
