I haven't had a lot to say on this thread because it's hard to think about quiting something that you love to do. I've been with the Denver Fire department for 33 years. Not as a firefighter, they really have my admiration, but in a support group maintaining all of the department communication systems. Over the years I've been fortunate to move up in rank to a posistion where I have had the opportunity to have a major impact in the direction the department went in the communications area.

This last week has been great as I've had many of the people I worked with through the years look me up. A lot of them started about the same time I did. These are people that I have respected over the years and many of them have also risen in the department ranks. It makes it hard in a way to leave. When you work in a great job with great people, it's really not a job but a way of life. It's now time to move on to the next step. I won't be out of the picture with the department, I'll still maintain relationships with them.

I have 10 working days left. Some will be hard because of the feelings about leaving the job but others will be on-the-top-of-the-world.

What do I plan on doing?

Part of my new life will be with my gold prospecting friends. I have many of them scattered around the US and I plan on visiting a lot of them.

Thanks Russ and all of the rest of you. We may be meeting in the future.

No, I haven't had a bunch of drinks. I wanted to post this first. Now for some Wild Turkey.
