Cheap good metal detectors

I’m a newbie so I hope it is OK to post this question here. But when it comes to looking for gold with a detector, I was wondering what a good metal detector would be. I like the one posted on this page in the second video http://gold-mining-silver.blogspot.com/ ... ining.html which seems to be a Coiltek 14” elliptical. Is the metal detector brand and so on that important? Basically can I get way with a cheap metal detector and still find gold nuggets?

Join a local yokel club and don't go through that nasty newbie learning curves so long. Baby steps first--learn how to detect first as the absolute hardest most expensive mode of mining there is for any beginner. You must first learn to pan and associated arts and crafts first. 95+% of folks give up immediately on nuggetshooting as extremely perplexing and you must learn to luv the skunk. Great units abound on the forums and craigslists everywhere. A nice Tesoro Lobo ST,plenty of whites units and others around for dimes on the dollar. Educate and prosper with locals first-John

Don't go too CHEAP. Have to agree with Hoser most that try detecting quickly give up, lacking patience or understanding.
Should most certainly be able to find something used. I am impartial to my Tesoro Lobo ST but many good ones around this price range Fisher GB2, Whites GM.
For me just another tool in my arsenal for prospecting.
