Russ,

The lease on my Subaru Outback is up 30 Sept :( If I don't have a replacement vehicle a couple months prior, I'm going to be pretty jumpy  Since I don't have a small camper trailer, I'm not sure about accommodations. It's been so long since I did any dry camping, I'm not sure I would want to. I'll be 65 in May, and I don't camp outdoors like I did in my 20's

Suction Dredge meetings for the new regulations

Postby cmfd70 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 4:44 am

Subject: Suction Dredge meetings for the new regulations

The following link has a list of the public meetings and where they are being held for the Ca. DFG Draft Environmental Impact Report. All miners and suction dredge operators should attend these meetings even if you do not testify.

Support from the minng community is very important and shows support for our right to suction dredge and mine. If you are affected in anyway from the proposed regulations you should testify as to what that affect is.

It is very hard to change the DFG's mind on what they want to do and direct them on what they should do if they are not aware of the problems the new regulations will create. Please, if at all possible make one or more of these meetings for your own benefit and the benefit of all concerned.

A chance to go dredging this year.!!!

Postby cmfd70 » Fri Apr 08, 2011 5:09 pm

Below is a series of letters relating to SB657 – A chance to go dredging this year.!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subject: CA DREDGING IN 2011? SB 657 could make it happen.
Hello fellow miners,

There is only one chance for dredging to return this year in CA. That is SB 657. Authored by Senator Ted Gaines, this Bill will allow DFG to begin issuing dredge permits again, until the EIR is complete. The Bill is currently in the Natural Resources and Water committee (NRW) and will be voted on April 12th. So your ‘mailed’ letter in support of SB 657 must be in Sacramento before April 11th. Your single letter re-addressed 9 times and sent to the various committee members could make all the difference. DFG has encouraged us to send more than one letter, if we want to cover numerous subjects.

We need to get this bill through the NRW committee and onto the Senate floor where it can be voted on quickly. Every support letter we send will help make this happen.

Plug in the name and room # below and send a letter to each member.

Honorable ______________
Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee
State Capitol, Room ______
Sacramento, CA 95814

Senator Fran Pavley (Chair) Room 4035
Senator Doug La Malfa (Vice Chair) Room 3070
Senator Anthony Cannella, Room 3048
Senator Noreen Evans Room 4034
Senator Jean Fuller, Room 3063
Senator Christine Kehoe, Room 5050
Senator Alex Padilla, Room 4038
Senator Joe Simitian, Room 2080
Senator Lois Wolk, Room 5114

Friends, time to light the fires and rally the troops as we did on the 29th with the DFG comment meeting in Sac. I talked to Sen. Gaines office this morning to ask if it was OK to bring others to the meeting with the NRW committee. Megan said, "Great idea, bring as many supporters as possible to be counted and submit written comments for the record at that time." There will be a limited number of speakers, however there will be a count of those in favor and against SB657. We should limit our written comments to property rights and financial losses created by SB 670, and the obvious questionable lack of due process during its creation. Give me a call if anyone local needs a ride. We'll Get a carpool going. Let's get'er done. Happy trails. .

If you have not already written a letter opposing the changes to the New Regs you are missing your chance to improve how you will be treated by DFG in 2012.

Need ideas or research to write your letter(s) to DFG?

The CSP (Comment Sharing Portal) aka the Dredging Research Archives is a project to assist miners by helping them share Research Comment letters and Ideas about why the New Regs need to be much less restrictive than DFG has planned.

It is a totally free all volunteer project to help you with ideas on how best to write a logical and factual letter supporting your position. Ideas other mines have already thought of, researched, and shared.

To learn how to gain access to the CSP2011 archives email CSP2011@verizon.net

…….and may we all be dredging again in our favorite stream or river soon.

May 12 - 5 yr moratorium on Suction dredging by CA DFG

Postby cmfd70 » Wed May 11, 2011 1:40 pm

Staff Recommendation: Approve the following:

(1) Trailer bill language to continue the moratorium on issuance of suction dredge permits for an additional five years, or until such time as new regulations that fully mitigate all identified significant environmental impacts, and a proposed fee structure that will fully cover all program costs, are in place.

(2) Approve Budget Bill Language prohibiting any funding at the department from being used for suction dredge mining regulation, permitting or other activities.
