Wanted--dredge motor

Postby micropedes1 » Fri Jan 28, 2011 8:44 am

Am building another dredge. Looking for motors with 1 inch threaded shaft (for p280 pump). Prefer Honda or Briggs, but will consider others.

I know...whole dredges for sale on Craiglist, but I prefer my own build.

Russ, I don't think that they make a 6.5Hp with a 1 inch shaft, although I would prefer it as far as weight is concerned. I might could fashion an adapter on my lathe for the smaller motor, but it is not really economical.

I guess it is gonna need to be 8-9 Hp. Might not have to be threaded. I can change threaded impellers to fit keyed shafts, but it's a pain. (it helps to own a machine shop)

Why not make a keyed to theaded shaft adapter and put spacers between the motor and pump!

If you have access to a lathe, you should be able to make it out of SS reasonably easy.

Only problem might be broaching the keyway into the adapter.

Good luck. :)

Too Late! Should of ask me two weeks ago had an almost new Honda 8 HP with a one day of run time, was missing the pump (sold it seperate) but still had the angled T-80 mount and the Keene base plate.
Horse traded with my uncle for a plasma cutter. :D

Yeah, they are sweet. I have a 100 amp Hypertherm in the shop that cuts 1" steel plate almost like drawing a line with a pencil. We don't much use a cutting torch anymore.

Building an adapter to go from 3/4 to 1 inch shaft is not really a good idea, adapter ends up being too thin. Better to TIG the threaded impeller closed. Then redrill as a keyed impeller.
