In regards to GR:A by now most who have watched this show are realizing that only the original show concept, that of six Oregon greenhorns going to Alaska in a desperate search for gold, had a schred of fact.

The rest of this show is simply overly-blended, "survivor-style" scripted fiction television and even the six original characters, along with the new additions, are the creative invention and cast of the G:RA show's executive producers and the production and film crew.

Remember one truth, that most of television shows these days are crafted as a business enterprise....to win ratings and draw sponsor Dollars. If you continue to watch GR:A be certain to enjoy it for what it really is...a contrived, casted and scripted "reality-style" TV show, made to sell air time and to win viewers.

Here is Jimmy's wife's blog: http://joydorsey.wordpress.com/

She sheds a little light into the behind-the-scenes stuff that happened up there. She says they didn't get paid a dime. I actually believe it.

Looks like she is a singer!

Sensational Sells.

I tend to think DSC / TLC Inc profits on Schadenfreude, (displaying the misery and conflict of others).. I believe their series of American Chopper, Jon and kate plus 8, the little people, and even Palin's Alaska do nothing more then destroy the lives of people they (TLC) disagrees with.

I think they have marginalized Palin politically by exposing her family more than it was during the campaign. American Chopper made a name for itself then the conflict between pop and son has become the "story", and has destroyed that family. The "little people" pumpkin farm divorces, Kate Plus 8 destroyed an already tense situation,

It's not the Survivor mold it is specific to TLC. It is agenda drive. These are people who believe in eugenics to save the planet. They think people like Palin son Trig and the little people should be aborted.

They have distain for working class people, although they do a lot of programs related to working people, what I see is a skewing to show the foebles of working class people. Train wrecks like GR:A, Toddlers and Tiaras enunciate a clear thought pattern that people are stupid and need to be lead around.

Dorsey for me was an example of this. Truthfully I think the fact that the old man was shown "praying for gold" was just another attempt to marginalize people with moral values. I don't ask God for "things" I ask him for guidance. But TLC was attempting to point out HOW THEY view Christians.

Aside from that the TLC, ANIPLAN, DISC Inc, kabal on entertainment in my view is driven with a green political agenda, these people have been pushing the 2012 apocalypse notion, a "Life After People" is a way for them to show how the "earth" heals after we are gone. They want the 500,000,000 on the planet rather than 6 trillion. they will sell with hook or crook.

These "reality" shows are subject to a great deal of manipulation on the part of the producers and editors. Their technique is the same as taking quotes out of context in journalism to change the slant of a story. My wife and I got interviewed in a small studio once for a life-saving award we were about to receive. The producer bragged about how she could make people appear any way she wants to by selective editing. I think the same thing was done with GRA. We only get to see a small fraction of the real experience and this is limited to what the producers think will sell and attract viewers. The actual mining is almost insignificant compared to the Discovery Channel's emphasis on the internal controversy and incompetence of these amatuer miners. That being said, the particpants certainly provided lots of blunders and friction for the editors to choose from.

In my experience with other would-be miners and my own early efforts at finding gold, you need to find knowledgeable miners, listen to them and learn from them. Anyone who acts as stubborn as these guys about accepting advice is going to have a slow learning curve as we see in the show. Leonard and the CSC guys taught me more about panning, sluicing and dredging in my first weekend with them a few years ago than I had learned in six months before I met them. I extend my great appreciation for that, particularly to Leonard and Rick in Colorado.

It's pretty simple: If you want to learn about prospecting you need to find real miners and listen to them, not argue with them.
