Claim made it through the fire!

Postby golden optimist » Tue Mar 15, 2011 12:49 pm

I went up to my claim to check out if the recent fire was on it as it seemed from the newspaper. I was lucky. The fire started about a mile downstream and went in the opposite direction.

While I was there, I took a few pictures. It looks like it will be a while before I want to dredge on it though. There's still snow and ice around.

This is looking upstream from the parking lot. The claim goes quite a ways from what is shown in the picture.

I'm looking forward to run down the bedrock this year. About 10 years ago I longarmed my 2 1/2" out a ways until the water got too deep. There should be a good drop off to the left of the bedrock as we have dredged about 4 feet deep just 15 feet to the left side of the picture. There is a large pool of slow water there.

At the left side of the picture is where the pool is.

Leonard, let me know when you want some help and I'll bring my 3" and we'll find that bedrock! I picked up a new pop-up camper last fall...It's gonna be great at Douglas Creek this year. Can't wait to hit the water...

Leonard, I was also wondering if that fire was close to your claim. I don't like fires, but I was hoping it would be upstream so that the spring floods that wash down the burn area would carry more gold into your claim. Maybe you should look for some homeowners downstream of the fire who will let you sluice or dredge. It would be interesting to check an area like that before and after the spring rains to see if any new gold washes in. In any case, good luck when you work it again. Hope you will post video for us.

Leonard told me it was about a mile downstream from his claim.

Glad to hear it, unscaved as our claims were found to be when all the smoke finally cleared after 2008 when all of Cal was on fire.
Very close to some of ours as well less than a 1/2 mile, glad I abided by the emergency closures to keep out that year. :?
I really was wanting to dredge but was still able to up off the Trinity, thanks to good friends. Hoserville country.
