Dams power down in the largest US dam removal

full story at the link. any one neer this could be a fun one to watch. i have a feeling its going to take a long time to dewater the dams.

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — The Elwha River on Washington's Olympic Peninsula once teemed with legendary salmon runs before two towering concrete dams built nearly a century ago cut off fish access to upstream habitat, diminished their runs and altered the ecosystem.

On June 1, nearly two decades after Congress called for full restoration of the river and its fish runs, federal workers will turn off the generators at the 1913 dam powerhouse and set in motion the largest dam removal project in U.S. history.

Contractors will begin dismantling the dams this fall, a $324.7 million project that will take about three years and eventually will allow the 45-mile Elwha River to run free as it courses from the Olympic Mountains through old-growth forests into the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Makes sense to me. We'll just buy more oil from Irac at $500.00 a barrel. We don't need that clean hydro power.

They ought to make sure they charge the indians at oil or gas prices instead of the cheap hydro power price.

we can always go back to campfires for cooking/keeping warm and carring tourchs at night. lots cheaper but sooner or latter someones gonna start complaining of all the smoke and start wondering if the hydropower was such a bad idea!

What good did that do?

When Arnold came in. Ca was 13 Bilion in debt. When Arnold left, Ca was 26 billion in debt. Or some numbers like that.

I don't think California can spend it's way out of debt.

Stolen from the Alaska Forum:

Congressman Warns: 'Those Who Can, Should Move Their Families Out of the City'
http://lewrockwell.com/slavo/slavo39.1.html

As prospectors, most of us are used to living without a lot of the modern conveniences while prospecting. That should put us ahead quite a bit.

It's too bad they want to pull out the old technology hydro plants. Some of them may be the only thing that works after solar flares or nuclear EMP. The movie "The Postman" comes to mind. David Bowie and company in it were booking along just fine with power at the hydro plant.

so ware are we going to put them. not to sound funny but. billions heading for the hills is a bad ideal. they would need houses, land to grow food. it would be better to teach them how to use every inch of the city to live.
