Front Range Question

Postby nebraskadad » Thu Feb 25, 2010 3:00 pm

Guys,

posing a question about places to go on Front Range not to far from Estes, I was thinking Left Hand Canyon near Ward. Any other possible places..

Looks like my Wyoming trip is taking a back seat to family reunion at YMCA of the Rocky's with extended family.. I want a 1/2 day to prospect.. May bring ppl along. non-power equipment ok..

Any thoughts appreciated..

Russ, if the reunion weren't so close to the Wyoming Rendevous i'd probably do both. Some of my cousins' I've not seen for 20+ years will be in Estes.

I am hoping to get a couple people wired up to do some digging.. It may wind up being me alone some place for an afternoon.

My wife is wanting to go and come back.. We will see.. Still planning a couple runs down to the nemaha..
Hopefully the snowmelt won't wash everything down to the Missouri!

For where you will be, Lefthand Canyon probably be your besy bet. You won't get rich but we have always found color and had a great time. The Ward/Jamestown junction 50 feet or so up the Ward side ought to get you some results with a sluice. Be sure and let us know when you are going to be here. If we aren't at Douglas Creek, I might be able to meet you.

Leonard, I will do so.. the Reunion dates are JUNE 27-30, 2010 at the Y.. The week before opening of Dredge season on Douglas Creek. Got a bunch of extended family coming from all over. I am putting it on my cousin's web site as a proposed activity.. I am guessing I won't have many takers but my family may surprise me.

When you say Jamestown/Ward junction are you talking about from the "Peak to Peak Highway " from Ward?

We will be coming down from St Mary's (hwy 7 to 72) Just curious, are there signs?

Leonard, or anyone familiar the LH Canyon, what is the best way from Ward to get to a location on Left Hand Canyon? Any spots better than others for a 1/2 day with green horn family members?

We are going be there on the 28th with family.. My wife is begging off the trip all together so it looks as if my boy and I may be able to make the trek to Douglas Creek for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Russ,

My boy and I will be heading to Douglas Creek on the 30th, looking forward to seeing everyone again.. Ryan is hyped about trying out the dredging..
We will be there probably from the 30th to the evening of the 3rd or morning of the 4th..

we are opting on Vic's for the Reunion.. I spoke with Jesse today he said they got through all the legal battles and it looks like they are good for at least 5 years. We have one of my cousin's wife who is about 6-7 months Pregnant and don't think it'd be too wise to get into much rough stuff as well as my Dad.

Look forward to seeing you and the shop.

Andy is off in FL and not sure what the Nemaha season is going to look like yet. I was thinking I'd take a day trip down there to poke around by myself.

drop me a note on my email account with your phone #s..
