It would be really funny if the "claim-jumper" found a lot of gold and then had to turn it over to the crew because what they did wasn't legal. Now that would be hilarious.

Except Fred is not the claim jumper, the Hoffmans never had a claim...Fred is the claim OWNER.
Depending on the timeline, he may have been the owner at the time the crew dug up that 3/4 oz in the 2011 season. Also their lease may have been void by that time.
That would make the crew the claim jumpers and they may have to give Fred that 3/4 oz... now THAT would be hilarious!!!

It will be interesting to see what happens Friday in the second episode. They are done at Porcupine unless there is a major reversal. I think they will find a way to get the water rights and start mining on the yukon claim. They already bought it and already have a lot of equipment there, it seems most reasonable.

There may be a spin off show based on Fred @ Porcupine using a crew of humans, that would be interesting but far less dramatic and therefore less popular.

Russ, Your comment about this being "only a TV show" is so true. I bet a good part of this show is contrived.

There is also a downside to this type of "reality" broadcasting when people on TV are portrayed as cold, calculating villans. Truth told the media has the capability to manipulate comments, images and quotes into creating personalities into whatever they determine as beneficial to boosting a show's ratings.

One post on the Discovery TV's own Gold Rush forum quoted "Dakota Fred" Hurt's Facebook account where he has purportedly stated that much of what was shown on GR was not what how it happened and lacked the full story. He expressed his growing concern over the huge amount of negative viewer reaction he is getting including some not-so-veiled threats of personal harm against him. Saw that Todd Hoffman has posted comments asking viewers to tone down their reactions against Fred. On TV nothing is what it seems. Kind of like politics.

lighten up bud.
He called himself a claim-jumper. You are taking this awfully personal. It's a Reality show, which means it has absolutely nothing to do with reality

I am actually taking nothing personally at all, you are mistaking my belief in my own opinions and how they differ from yours as a personal attack, it is not. Maybe you should lighten up, bud. ;)

This is a reality TV show and I have never lost sight of the fact that this is more about drama than gold mining. However, that does not stop me from having fun with it....YOU can have some fun to if you would be more interested in discussion and debate than in making sure your point of view is correct.
It doesn't matter who is correct because it's all fiction.

I believe the Hoffmans had a plan to go gold mining and by chance connected with RAW productions. Pretty much everything else that happens is contrived and scripted.

Now that everyone can relax because we all agree this is only a TV show...

It doesn't matter what Fred called himself, he is not a claim jumper, he owns the claim legally

Next episode is tomorrow< anyone wann guess where they will be digging?
