Internet Censorship running through congress.

Postby nebraskadad » Sat Dec 17, 2011 8:09 pm

Two Bills currently in Congress, one in the house, another in the Senate for all intent and purpose puts Internet commerce and access in jeopardy..

SOPA - Senate - Online Piracy Act, typifies political double speak. Simply speaking most online privacy people see it another attempt to stifle speech, and puts DHS in the position of keyholder to speech. the same mechanism is currently being used in Communist China, Iran and other totalitarian regimes.

For the bill's author Leahy of NY, It is largely driven by a couple sectors, namely the recording and media industry, which is why you won't hear of it on TV.

The second bill is in the House.H.R.3261

Both are seriously flawed, in ways one can only imagine.

Normally i am on a very different page than the ACLU on things. But this one is something to be aware of and tell your reps to say vote "no way in hell".

AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING
EXCERPT: "Members of the House Homeland Security Committee introduced a cybersecurity bill on Thursday that would establish a quasi-governmental entity to oversee information-sharing with the private sector. Like the other cybersecurity bills offered by the House GOP, the Promoting and Enhancing Cybersecurity and Information Sharing Effectiveness (PrECISE Act) encourages private firms to share information on cyber threats but stops short of mandating new security standards for sectors deemed critical to national security.

"The risk of cyberattack by enemies of the United States is real, is ongoing and is growing," said Chairman Pete King (R-N.Y.). "The PrECISE Act, in line with the framework set forth by the Speaker’s Cybersecurity Task Force led by Rep. [Mac] Thornberry [R-Texas], protects our critical infrastructure without a heavy-handed and burdensome regulatory approach that could cost American jobs."

The problem with this, is that THEY will have the ability to regulate the freedom of speech on the Internet, which is something the government has wanted to do for YEARS and even now, Obama has sought to obtain an Internet "kill switch." Once we have a government agency start up, they grab for MORE power, in order to entrench themselves, and we can NEVER get rid of them. The EPA, the DoE, ATF, BLM, etc, have ALL grabbed for more and more power, bigger budgets, and have exceeded their original charters many times over. THIS is what is meant by "soft" tyranny.

H.L. Mencken saw this coming: "The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it."

Normally I am definitely not on the same page as the ACLU. But on this and on the recent National Defense Appropriation there is a provision in which US citizen's could be detained indefinitely without trial or lawyer.

Mother frickers are gearing up for some form or martial law.

UPDATE: The Obama administration officially states he is signing the NDAA - Click for news article. Both the House and Senate have finalized it and submitted it for his signature. (4:39pm ET 12/15) In the final bill, they renamed Section 1031 to Section 1021, but it is otherwise unchanged.

The President will promptly sign NDAA Section 1031 into law, codifying who is eligible for "Detention under the law of war without trial." Without a trial, there is no chance to tell a judge that the government has no evidence. The worst thing about this law is that it originally exempted U.S. citizens, but now it dangerously does not specify either way (i.e. is "statutorily agnostic") -- because the Obama administration asked to REMOVE the exemption for citizens. See the C-SPAN video clip showing this fact:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6ARkiJM2bA

Because they removed the exemption for citizens, legal experts agree the law is "agnostic" on indefinite detention of citizens. This means citizens CAN be imprisoned WITHOUT A TRIAL as long as the Supreme Court continues refusing to decide on the matter. However, when the Supreme Court does make a decision, it may not be the one we want. To stop this, we must elect a whole new Congress who are not "agnostic" on our basic freedoms.

This will be an extremely difficult task for us to achieve. Our Senators, who we elected, voted 99-1 to approve the dangerous Feinstein Amendment 1031(e), which is NOT an exemption for citizens, but instead throws the question of our basic freedoms into the Supreme Court (who we did not elect). All the politicians we elected who voted for this must not be re-elected, because they are "agnostic" on our basic freedoms.

Will this petition get the job done? It will help spread awareness, but it won't elect a new Congress. But we must stop this runaway train. It's the only way we'll see a new law that is not "agnostic" on our basic freedoms.

There is no easy way to elect an entirely new Congress. But it is technically possible, and that's good enough. We must begin talking, thinking, planning, organizing.

Mark these words: We will get to the bottom of EVERYTHING.

Serious times coming.. "this is the winter of discontent". How in my country can something like this occur?

our socalled "representatives" get by with this kind of ....stuff because we Americans are to lazy to do anything about it, and or to lazy to even do ANY research into what "they" are doing to our Country and us Americans! if a American citizen does any researc hinto these mouchs trackrecords, you will find out that most all of these mouchs arent worthy to be in office!and some should be prosecuted for their actions! but nothing will be done and they know it! thats whats pushing them and their partys along!
