Normally I am definitely not on the same page as the ACLU. But on this and on the recent National Defense Appropriation there is a provision in which US citizen's could be detained indefinitely without trial or lawyer.

http://www.change.org/petitions/out-wit ... s-now-hereUPDATE: The Obama administration officially states he is signing the NDAA - Click for news article. Both the House and Senate have finalized it and submitted it for his signature. (4:39pm ET 12/15) In the final bill, they renamed Section 1031 to Section 1021, but it is otherwise unchanged.
The President will promptly sign NDAA Section 1031 into law, codifying who is eligible for "Detention under the law of war without trial." Without a trial, there is no chance to tell a judge that the government has no evidence. The worst thing about this law is that it originally exempted U.S. citizens, but now it dangerously does not specify either way (i.e. is "statutorily agnostic") -- because the Obama administration asked to REMOVE the exemption for citizens. See the C-SPAN video clip showing this fact:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6ARkiJM2bABecause they removed the exemption for citizens, legal experts agree the law is "agnostic" on indefinite detention of citizens. This means citizens CAN be imprisoned WITHOUT A TRIAL as long as the Supreme Court continues refusing to decide on the matter. However, when the Supreme Court does make a decision, it may not be the one we want. To stop this, we must elect a whole new Congress who are not "agnostic" on our basic freedoms.
This will be an extremely difficult task for us to achieve. Our Senators, who we elected, voted 99-1 to approve the dangerous Feinstein Amendment 1031(e), which is NOT an exemption for citizens, but instead throws the question of our basic freedoms into the Supreme Court (who we did not elect). All the politicians we elected who voted for this must not be re-elected, because they are "agnostic" on our basic freedoms.
Will this petition get the job done? It will help spread awareness, but it won't elect a new Congress. But we must stop this runaway train. It's the only way we'll see a new law that is not "agnostic" on our basic freedoms.
There is no easy way to elect an entirely new Congress. But it is technically possible, and that's good enough. We must begin talking, thinking, planning, organizing.
Mark these words: We will get to the bottom of EVERYTHING.
Serious times coming.. "this is the winter of discontent". How in my country can something like this occur?
