Green River Gorge, under the bridge to Enumclaw...
either direction when you get down! I have found some NICE flakes down there years ago!
It's a long way down, and slippery as hell - be careful ;)

@ Ron_L- I know that place, and for some reason I picture myself falling Willey Coyote style holding a tiny sign that says "YIKES!"

@ The Caped Crusader... I know they were having issues years ago with land slides on the south side of the bridge, but I haven't been there in years!
It appears they have rebuilt the bridge - it looks easier to get to the bottom of the gorge now ;)

Pretty country and very challenging in some places to get down to the river. We worked a spot recommended by late author and gold miner Roy Mayo back in the mid-eighties. Packed in 2" high-banker and worked the gravels and that was when no one cared about people operating small mining equipment. Recall that after a full day we had only found about a dozen colors in a clean up so a flake would have been a welcome sight for the effort. Getting out and up the hill I fell backwards and sprained my ankle. My dredging buddy, Terry, only stood by laughing his head off as I was moaning with pain. Never went back and it is only twenty miles from my home. Had better luck on the Raging River just off I-90 and east of Seattle.

Thanks Libertydave for the tip about the Raging River, but what does anybody know about Huckleberry Creek?

Lots of places in Washington for gold prospecting/mining but limited on western side of state compared to central Cascade Mountain areas. Major larger rivers flowing westward have gold and usually from feeder creeks...these include Snoqualmie, Skykomish, Cedar, upper Puyallup and more.

My local favorites for over thirty years have been the Sultan River and the Raging River...all an hour drive from Seattle area. Never prospected Huckleberry Creek so unfamiliar with history but will check out a couple of sources for info. Best source book on Washington gold was written by the late Roy Mayo, last updated in 1994 and just before he passed. If you want a copy check out Amazon or Ebay. Good luck!
